At the airport at allegiant airline in the personal item bin to measure bag can a bookbag be laid side ways?

I'm flying allegiant and wondered if they will allow you to lay your bookbag on the side to measure rather than upright. I'm only trying to have my book bag as a personal item. If it's laid sideways it might make it. I have a picture of the bin below as an example.

I don't think it matters which way your orientate the bag. As long as it fits in some way it should be fine.

It can be in any orientation.
7 x 15 x 16 inches (17.8 x 38.1 x 40.6 centimeters)
The orientation doesn't matter. You put it in the bin, if asked, in the most advantaged direction for you.
The longest dimension is 16 inches and they are serious as 40.6cm.
The second longest dimension can then not exceed 15 inches (38.1cm)
The remaining third dimension can't exceed 7 inches.
It is to the largest spot in the bag of an uneven measuring the bulges including pockets, wheels, and appendages.
I believe the bin is wider than tall with the 16 going across, but if it doesn't fit one way, try the other.

As Allegiant is a rat airline you need to be sure ALL dimensions meet their criteria. Rat airlines do NOT allow any deviation from their criteria. Are you intelligent enough to use a ruler? Give it a try.

It doesn't matter which way you sit it in the measuring bin. As long as it fits on all sides, then it will be fine. Howvever, Allegiant tends to be VERY strict about this. So do make sure that your bag, when packed, does not exceed any of the measurements. You are charged more if you have to pay at the airport check-in or at the gate.

The orientation of the bag doesn't matter as long as it fits. You can put it in whichever way is best for you.

Let's put it this way. Even supposing your bag held not books but Waterford crystal, if the only way the bag would fit was sideways, that's how they'd make you lay it.
