Why did I set off the metal detector?
It was my first flight in Birmingham UK airport. I had gold earrings in, I read on the internet they'd be fine to wear. I weren't wearing anything metal on me at all. But on the morning the back off my earring fell off, do you think it could have been that? It was so embarrassing I had to stand like a star while the woman patted my back and checked my shoes to be told it's fine I can go. I don't want it happening on my flight home?
No idea what set it off. It happens to most of us at some time. Just accept it and get over it.
TAKE ALL JEWELLERY OFF. IT WAS WHAT WAS LEFT IN YOUR EARS THAT SET IT OFF. ALSO TAKE OFF ANY WATCHES, BELTS AND OTHER THINGS YOU MAY HAVE ON. EVEN (FOR FEMALES) UNWIRED BRASSIERES CAN SET THEM OFF TOO
We don't know. People go through metal detectors all the time with metal zippers in pants, rings, and other small jewelry.
Was it really a metal detector or was it a body scanner?
Body scanners do not detect metal. They look for anomalies against your skin (like someone taping a gun to their back).
In that case, anything in a pocket would trigger the secondary examination.
You might not have set off the metal detector. They sometimes choose people at random to pass the wand over.
Jewellery / earrings don't set off metal detectors.
Generally it would be something like a belt buckle.
Generally jewellery doesn't set off the detectors, so it may have been a glitch or possibly metal in your clothes, belt buckle, underwear etc. Shoe for occasionally set off the detectors as it's often more dense then jewellery metal.
I can't tell you how often the underwire on my bra used to set off the metal detector at two particular airports in south-east Asia. But it was never a problem. They just asked me to stand still for a minute while they ran the wand over me, and sent me on my way.
It was not your gold earrings, by the way. It can happen quite randomly, so there's no need to be at all embarrassed.
Big metal d×ck?
, I read on the internet…
The metal detector probably read something else.
It was so embarrassing I had to stand like a star while the woman patted my back and checked my shoes to be told it's fine I can go. I don't want it happening on my flight home?
SIMPLE take off your earrings going past the security point and ALL your other metal.
TOO BAD you feel embarrassed that a metal detector actually detected something and a security agent gave you an extra check.
Your flight was safe you arrived at destination,
Sad that Princess was held up a few seconds. TOO BAD.
WHAT IS THE REAL ISSUE?
You are probably supporting those that want plastic guns to be legal too. That will make the search not so much fun.
A FEW bad passengers have made it difficult for the millions of others that have no desire to do bad things on the flight.
Flying was a much nicer thing decades ago when it was a luxury thing and a special thing to be able to do with your family.
- Why don't airports use steam catapults and transverse arrestor cables, like they do on aircraft carriers, for extra short take-off & landing? 1. Airports could be pretty tiny with runways no longer than a football field 2. Takeoff and landing (takeoff especially) would be *much* more exciting 3. Airlines could charge people more money because the experience would be much more fun 4. It would save a lot of fuel with much less taxiing around the airfield, and much less fuel used during the takeoff phase
- Piercings and metal detectors? I have my nipples pierced and I was just wondering if they would go off at airport security? I'm going with my family and they don't know about them so I'm really nervous about this, will it be alright? They are kind of spikey jewellery aswell
- Airplane mechanics: why would a plane have to burn off fuel before landing? My local news just talked about a flight having to return to the airport after "mechanical issues with the nose gear", but then it said that the plane had to circle the airport for about an hour "ro burn off enough fuel for landing". I'm curiois why would it have to burn off fuel instead of just landing? Especially if it turned around for mechanical issues.
- I did an interview for Delta airlines and in the video interview I accidentally said American Airlines? Has anyone else had this problem? I caught it very quickly and said delta immediately and kept saying delta in the other answers. Do you think it can cost me the next step of the process?
