Fat person on a plane?

I don't remember when or where i heard this story, but there was this fat guy on a commercial plane. He was on the seat closest to the middle aisle and he was sticking out onto the aisle. The pilot saw this as a hazard since he was in the way of walking, so they decided to move the man who was sitting next to him onto another seat so that the fat guy could use 2 seats to be comfortable. The flight airline decided to not charge him for an extra seat, and this is understandable since he already paid the ticket, but here's my question; if you take 2 seats, should you be charged for both or just be charged per person?

Yes, they should be charged for two seats. They should have moved the fat guy, unless they had a better seat for the other guy. When a person measures beyond the size of a regular seat, they should have to pay for an additional seat right then or there and be removed if there's no room for him elsewhere. Obese people make it painful and grossly uncomfortable for people who are stuck beside them. In fact, it causes great damage to those with injuries from car crashes. It is about time that the grossly obese, who require more than one seat, pay for two seats and are appropriately seated in to, not squished into one, encroaching on another person and the seat that person paid for.

Many airlines are now charging if someone needs two seats. I blame the airlines since I remember when each seat was the size of a recliner seat. They shrunk them down tiny to make more money and fit more seats in a plane. Now NO ONE is comfortable.

I think they shouldve been charged for both but being that it was a last minute decision they probably didn't want to deal with that

There are MANY Airlines and many policies on this.
Some will charge for the extra seat.

Some MIGHT charge for the extra seat if the plane is near full.

Some Airlines have installed extra large seats for their many extra large passengers.

Some charge by the pound.

The pilot could only do that if there were unoccupied seats on the plane. Something that is more and more rare all the time. Generally, really big people have to book two seats. And hope they get ones together.

Airline policies vary a bit on this. Most airlines will require that you purchase an additional seat UNLESS there are unsold seats at the time of departure, in which case they will allow you to use 2 at no additional cost.

Nah

People should be charged by whatever weight they and their luggage take up. Flying is dependent on weight, so why should someone of 100lbs pay the same as someone of 400lbs?

I think if you take up two seats you should pay for two seats…

It varies greatly company to company. Anyone who had flown lately, knows that "empty seats" are a thing of the PAST.

The last few flights I took from Milan to New York… Were PACKED. SOLD OUT. Planes do not fly half empty planes anymore, like they once did, before 9-11-

Some planes will have special slightly larger seats… For truly Obese people.

Usually those people are AWARE that they won't fit in a normal seat and make arrangements.

No, they should NOT be charged doubled, and need to get to their destinations, same as anyone else.

Airlines should stop being so damn greedy and making the seats so damn small… That even average sized people can barely move. Not everyone can afford the luxury of Business or first class, with their wider plush seats.
