Was there really a mid-air collision in Southern Germany?

I was wondering because I watched a video on youtube about 2 planes crashing in southern germany in the early 2000s and the air traffic controller got killed by one of the victims parents.

Yes, the mid-air collision on 1 July 2002. See the link below. Also, the 2017 Hollywood film "Aftermath" is loosely based on the aftermath of the disaster, with Arnold Schwarzenegger portraying a character largely based on Vitaly Kaloyev (the killer).

Yes it did.

One was a DHL cargo plane, the other was a Russian one carrying kids - and one of the parents later killed the ATC guy in charge.

Yes, that is what changed policies in which the aircrew will follow TCAS commands now instead of ATC instructions.
