Do not take the advice in the answer from Aster Rhoids. If you get to the airport only 30 minutes before departure you will almost certainly not be able to get to the gate before boarding is closed. You will miss your flight and it will be your fault.

Typical time through from arrival at terminal at RIC at that hour is one hour and 15 minutes for a 5:45AM arrival. Checking luggage you would have to check at the counter and add 30 minutes for a 5:15 AM arrival at terminal. You need to add for airport parking if arriving by car and parking and then getting to the terminal.
You can buffer additional time in case of issues. Jetblue recommends 15 extra minutes.
That is where a standard of 2 hours comes from to check in at airport and check luggage.
Although boarding begins about 1/2 hour before the flight, even if arriving at the gate after boarding begins is not a problem.
If you are walking into the terminal at 5:30, you should be good.
There's usually not a backed up line at security at that hour, but it depends on how many flights are leaving early. I'd be there at 5.
