My flight leaves RIC at 7:01 a.m., what time do I need to be at the airport?

1-2 hours beforehand

If you're in a rush, 30min-1hr at most

I don't know where RIC is, but it may partially depend on if you are travelling locally or internationally and if you are checking in luggage or using carry on luggage.

You need to be at the airport two hours before your flight is scheduled to depart.

Do not take the advice in the answer from Aster Rhoids. If you get to the airport only 30 minutes before departure you will almost certainly not be able to get to the gate before boarding is closed. You will miss your flight and it will be your fault.

The general rule of thumb is to be there 2 hours before departure.

Early morning is typically on-time departures. If checked-in from home as typical, and not checking luggage, you are going directly to the departure gate.
7:00 depart, 6:30 boarding begins, 6:20 exit TSA security checkpoint, 6:00 enter TSA security line, 5:45 AM arrive at terminal. Typical time through from arrival at terminal at RIC at that hour is one hour and 15 minutes for a 5:45AM arrival. Checking luggage you would have to check at the counter and add 30 minutes for a 5:15 AM arrival at terminal. You need to add for airport parking if arriving by car and parking and then getting to the terminal.
You can buffer additional time in case of issues. Jetblue recommends 15 extra minutes.
That is where a standard of 2 hours comes from to check in at airport and check luggage.

Although boarding begins about 1/2 hour before the flight, even if arriving at the gate after boarding begins is not a problem.

If you are walking into the terminal at 5:30, you should be good.

There's usually not a backed up line at security at that hour, but it depends on how many flights are leaving early. I'd be there at 5.

Before 7:01 a.m. This is something to contact your carrier about.

Usually you want to be about 2 hours early, but Richmond only has 9 flights departing between 6 AM and 8 AM so about 90 minutes early should be fine. 5 to 5:30 AM would be good.

1.5-2 hours prior to departure. Not sure what date you are flying out of Richmond and no idea what kind of business travel occurs out of RIC but no less than 90 minutes prior
