When boarding a plane, why doesn't the airline(s) board people those assigned to the rear of the plane first?

Added (1). Just to clarify, I'm asking in general boarding practices in the US
If abroad, is boarding done in a different manner?

I would say typical boarding with a single entrance, assuming all persons have assigned seating, in this typical scenario.

Rich people are never the last for anything I guess.

Many airlines do exactly that.

Because that would make too much sense. They let the rich people board first. Welcome to AmeriKKKa.

They should, shouldn't they?

Most airlines used to do that. Alaska still does (sort of). It is generally faster. However, now that airlines have decided to charge more for various extras, boarding first is one of those. The more you pay, the quicker you get on the plane and assure that your bag gets in the overhead bin.

They do. What plane have you been going on that doesn't?

There are a couple of exceptions: infirm and children get to go on first, but after them they call the back rows first and then work up to the front rows.

Because when a passenger in row 25 is standing in the isle while putting his bag in an overhead bin, the passenger in row 20 can still reach his seat. If the airlines allowed everyone board at the same time, the passenger sitting in row 5 will make a whole plane load stand there and wait while he is trying to shove his bag in the bin.

They do.

They board wheelchair passengers first
then the first class and business class passengers
economy class passengers board at random later
