First time flying alone. Is there anything I need to do after getting through TSA?

I've never really payed specific detail on the process of what I'm supposed to do to get to and on my flight since I've always had it done for me, but this time it is different, as I'm arriving to the airport on my own, and still am worried that I'm going to be lost. After getting through TSA, would there be anything that I would need to do, go to, or have before I can get on my flight besides my boarding pass? I plan to check in online and print my boarding pass from home.

F.Y.I. Lindbergh Field is the airport I will be departing from if that would change anything.

We all feel that way, airports are huge and it seems intimidating until you get there and find out that they know this and offer lots of help and lots of signs to get you to your destination.

All airports are designed the same.

When you get to the airport, look for the departure area for your airline. If you are carrying on your own luggage you can go straight to security. If you check your luggage, go to the counter for your airline. There are signs everywhere. At security show them your ID, you will then be screened. Place your luggage on the conveyor for Xray, you empty your pockets and walk through the metal detector. Pick up all your stuff. Once you are in the secure area you can go anywhere - Note if you leave the secure area you have to go through security screen again. There are signs everywhere. There are large displays showing flights and gates. Find your flight and go to that gate. You can wait there, or you can wander around, get something to eat, use the bathroom, buy something at the little shops. At the gate you wait until your flight is called. They will tell you how to board. When you arrive at your destination, follow the signs to the exit, usually by the baggage check. Follow the crowd of people from your plane - they're all going to the same place.

There are signs everywhere. You can also ask any airport employee.

You should already know what gate you are going to before you get to TSA (to make sure that you are going through the right checkpoint). You can find that on the airlines app or one of the gagillion monitors in the airport.
After TSA, collect your stuff and head to the gate. There are plenty of signs. Doublecheck when you get to the gate that it is your flight (it will say so on a screen behind the gate agent); if you get there early, there could be another flight boarding before yours.
Board when they tell you to board (which will either be by row or boarding group).

Also, you could have just said San Diego.

  • First time flying with stops? So is Christmas season and I'm traveling from the US to Mexico for the holidays, I have already flying from point A to point B but I never have from point A to point B and C ( or city stops) so I'm nervous. How early have to be on the airport? Is one hour enough to switch from one plane to other? How long can it take on immigration and still have to take the second plane?
  • I'm flying from idaho to Punta Cana, Dominica Republic. Can I effectively get my gun through New York Airport without getting hassled? We know that DR can get pretty sketchy sometimes and definitely want to bring my handgun. But New York obviously isn't fond of anything that starts with g and ends in uns. My overlay is there for a couple hours. Has anyone effectively got their checked bag with gun through without getting feds pulling you out of an airplane?
  • Advice for first time flight alone? I'm 18 and although a frequent flyer I'm about to fly alone for the first time ever and to make it worse the flight is 15 hours the longest I've ever done before is 11 with family what can I do since I won't know anyone? And any advice for getting through the airport without panicking
  • First time booking through trip.com and my flights are with Scoot and Cebu Pacific Airlines. I'm unsure where I can checkin and put add ons? Is there an option to check in and add some add ons through trip.com or directly with Scoot and Ceb Pac? However, I tried managing my bookings separately on their respective websites but they both say they can't find my booking or whatever… My flight is still in a month but I d like to worry about it now than when it's nearer and I doubt they won't appear there because I've had flights before that I was able to add to my manage bookings months ahead.
