Will 50 grams of tobacco set off a metal detector at an airport?

I currently have 50 grams of Phillip Morris tobacco in my underwear and am about to go through airport security, will the metal detector beep or will they detect that I have it?

I'm missing something here. Why would organic materials set off metal detectors?

Geez… Do you not understand what "Metal Detector" means? It detects METAL.

However, since most airports have replaced metal detectors with body image scanners, you may be caught because that will show up as an anomaly.

However - again - WHY are you trying to hide it? Tobacco is not prohibited.

The scanner will pick up the fact that you're concealing something in your underwear. Why bother? Just carry the tobacco

You will almost certainly go through a body scanner instead of a metal detector. The body scanner will see that you have something hidden and you will be searched. If the container is metal, and you do go through a metal detector, then it will probably alert to that.

However, you CAN take tobacco on the plane, so I don't understand why you're trying to hide it.

Don't be silly. Since when has tobacco contained metal? Which part of METAL detector don't you understand?

Unless Phillips Morris has changed their tobacco mixture recently TOBACCO does not set off a Metal Detector.

Your unusual behaviour can set off the human detector.

Body scanner can alert to unusual stuff in unusual place on the body.

Really depends on your intended use of product. Sweat soaked tobacco has an unusual smoking flavor. Most do not like,

If tobacco is in a pouch obviously a pouch or tin made with metal like a foil pouch can set off the METAL detector.

That you intend to hide something not prohibited on a flight may raise an alert amongst the security inspectors and result in some extra checking.
If this extra checking delays you for your flight the Airline does not have to give you FREE next seat ticket., a FREE hotel if you must stay over night or a FREE meal while you wait for next flight. That you want to play a game at security point be advised Airport Security are not known for playing nice with others.
Customs Officers at destination are really not nice in a situation like this. The cavity search is not fun. That would be to determine if you just happened to have smoking materials stuffed elsewhere in non metallic container.

I will not ask WHY you would want to do this.
Security has more than enough people trying to test their systems as it is.

Airline staff really do not care what you stuff in your underwear. They do request you just keep it in your pants until after you get off the flight.

  • Piercings and metal detectors? I have my nipples pierced and I was just wondering if they would go off at airport security? I'm going with my family and they don't know about them so I'm really nervous about this, will it be alright? They are kind of spikey jewellery aswell
  • Is shoes off at airport getting less popular? When was the last time you were asked to remove normal trainers when travelling in Europe? Hasn't happened in years, boots is understandable but simple sneakers?
  • Is it safe for two planes to take off at the same time at the same airport? I was wondering because I was flying out of Guangzhou airport in China and I saw another plane on another runway take off almost at the same time we did (he was headed away from us though)
  • Will earrings make airport metal detectors go off? I just got my ears pierced and I'm going to have to get on a plane in a few days. I really don't want the metal detector to go off and have to take out my earrings and let my ears close up. They're titanium 4mm studs if that means anything
