Is it safe for two planes to take off at the same time at the same airport?
I was wondering because I was flying out of Guangzhou airport in China and I saw another plane on another runway take off almost at the same time we did (he was headed away from us though)
Sure as long as they are using different runways.
Most larger airports have several planes in line to take-off, and the next one is getting ready before the first one is completely off the runway.
It can be perfectly safe, assuming that the departure paths are different, and that the runway layout permits safe operation.
We do it here, in the US, too. (But noise abatement rules in metropolitan areas present additional restrictions.)
Yes, although it is frowned upon for them to fly into each other after takeoff.
Are you the eeffing pilot? No, so don't worry about it
YES
Many planes same runway same time is also possible.
Two runways. Two controllers two flight paths that operate in their part of the ground and sky.
Many Airports have many runways to take advantage of the wind. Very common to be using more than one at a time. TWO very common a few can use three at the same time.
Parallel takeoffs and landings are common at large airports with multiple runways. Many thousands of parallel departures occur every day worldwide and yes, it's safe, or it wouldn't happen.
Sure it is. Happens all the time. Different runways and different departure routes - no problem.
Go to any busy airport and you'll see planes taking off at "almost" the same time.
Yes
- Why don't airports use steam catapults and transverse arrestor cables, like they do on aircraft carriers, for extra short take-off & landing? 1. Airports could be pretty tiny with runways no longer than a football field 2. Takeoff and landing (takeoff especially) would be *much* more exciting 3. Airlines could charge people more money because the experience would be much more fun 4. It would save a lot of fuel with much less taxiing around the airfield, and much less fuel used during the takeoff phase
- Booking trip with two different airlines vs same airline? Any differences? One over the other? I'm deciding on which flight i should take to Honolulu. The cheaper flights seem to have two different airlines. For example, flight to LA on American airlines, then from LA to Honolulu with Alaska. Compared to sticking with one airline. Any bad experiences with having two separate airlines? Is it safer to stay with one airline as in luggage safety?
- Will I get boarding passes at the same time? I will be leaving from Vancouver (YVR) to LAX to Raleigh, NC on WestJet on June 17th. I have a 2 hour and 58 minute layover at LAX. From there, I will be departing on WestJet operated by Delta Airlines INC to Raleigh, NC. It's my first time travelling alone.
- Has it ever happened where an arriving plane had to take off immediately because there was no parking space at airport? Is it mandatory that all arriving planes have a parking space available? What IF it were to happen? What would be the solution?
