It depends upon your itinerary. If you go to https://www.britishairways.com/en-us/information/baggage-essentials/extra-overweight-baggage they have a link where you can log in with your flight info and look it up.
Any bag over 32kg (70lb) will be shipped separately as cargo. Each passenger is allowed up to ten pieces of luggage weighing 23 or 32kg (51-70lb) per flight. This includes the checked luggage allowance. When checked in online BA charges between £36 to £120 per piece of luggage over the allowance.
If your allowance is 23kg or 50lbs, you can take a heavier bag up to 32kg or 70lbs for a fee or £65 each sector, if you are connecting there could be additional costs. It's worth noting that in most cases your hand baggage allowance on British Airways is a very generous 23kg, co you could just transfer that extra baggage to your carry on baggage.
It is not-advisable to put valuable items in your checked luggage, so if you are intending to do this, use a wrapping service at the airport.
- Booking trip with two different airlines vs same airline? Any differences? One over the other? I'm deciding on which flight i should take to Honolulu. The cheaper flights seem to have two different airlines. For example, flight to LA on American airlines, then from LA to Honolulu with Alaska. Compared to sticking with one airline. Any bad experiences with having two separate airlines? Is it safer to stay with one airline as in luggage safety?
- Can this bag be used as carry on? Has anyone used this bag as carry on? Can my adidas® santiago v medium duffel bag be used as carry on luggage on my international flight to Haiti? Has anyone else used the bag as carry on? I feel like it ll be too long but I've never been on a flight or in an airport so I just need help. It is an American Airlines flight
- I'm taking my first flight ever and it's with Alaska airlines. I don't have a suitcase, so I'm bringing a large duffel bag. Is this okay? I would rather not be charged extra! The bag is a little longer than a normal suitcase but a lot thinner
- Why don't airlines charge for people's weight, the same way they charge for the luggage's weight? The cost for adding a few punds to your luggage is robbery. I'm at least 40 lbs lighter than the average American. Why can't they give me a discount considering that I probably cost less fuel than most people?
