If I fly by Canada Air, is the baggage claim system the same as the US?
I'm planning to go on a trip to Canada to visit my friend in the coning weeks -- however, I'm a minor (17.) I have a stamped/notarized permission slip from my parent, my birth certificate, and passport. However, I have since been informed that the baggage claim system in Canada is different from the ones in the USA, and I did not use the "unacompanied minor" option when buying my ticket, as I'd read on the airport+border control's website that, as I was above the age of 16, that I didn't need to register as an unacompanied minor and it was optional. What do I need to know? How would I go about retrieving my baggage in the airport after the flight? Is it really different from retrieving it in the US? Will they not let me retrieve my baggae because I'm a minor?
If anyone needs to know, I'm flying to Toronto Pearson Airport.
Please answer quickly, I only have a few weeks before flying!
It's the same.
In fact it's the same all over the world.
Who informed you that it was different?
It is the same as everywhere else.
Just get it off the carousel as you do anywhere else!
, I'm a minor (17.)
If you do not have Parental Permission you will be returned home.
I have since been informed that the baggage claim system in Canada is different from the ones in the USA,
Really you have been told that.
Baggage claim systems in Airports are Similar but not identical place to place.
For you your baggage will arrive on one of the baggage carousels in the Canada Customs inspection area.
just after Immigration Passport Control.
You will claim your luggage and proceed towards the Exit where a Canada Customs Officer will ask some questions and may want to search your stuff.
Being the Age of 17 you will not be allowed out of the secure area until Officials verify there's an ADULT to greet you. This Adult will be the one your Parents have selected.
t I didn't need to register as an unaccompanied minor and it was optional. TRUE.
Your PARENTS must check you in for your flight. The flying on the plane part is not a concern for a 17 year old.
What do I need to know? You need to know you are a CHILD for the purpose of International Law and Border Crossing.
How would I go about retrieving my baggage in the airport after the flight?
Use your eyes look for your luggage. READ the tags many look the same.
Use your arms and hands to LIFT the bag from the luggage conveyor and place on the ground. Lots of bags? Look first for a luggage cart to assist you with taking your luggage from the Customs area.
Your friends will not be at the luggage area to help you. YOU DO IT YOURSELF until you exit Customs Canadian Officials will decide when you can leave. They usually want to talk with the Adult that will greet you before you can exit.
Toronto Pearson Airport. Very Large Airport.
This video show the Toronto Airport Arrival area for International Flights.
When you go home you do a US Customs Inspection BEFORE you get on the plane. GO EARLY 3-4 hours before departure. It can get busy.
It's the same in Canada, the US, Australia, Singapore, etc…

I think that you shoud contact Canada Air directly and find out about their policies.
- Do passenger air jets fly over the North Pole often on their way to other side of world (Ex. China) from North America? Was watching a documentary where someone left Canada on a passenger jet and they showed the flight going over the north pole to China would it not be kind of dangerous if they had to land and had to get out at the North pole? the cold air pressure is not too much for passengers inside?
- Is it safe for two planes to take off at the same time at the same airport? I was wondering because I was flying out of Guangzhou airport in China and I saw another plane on another runway take off almost at the same time we did (he was headed away from us though)
- Is the hub and spoke airline system more stable? I would figure that connecting traffic would be more stable for airlines compared to point to point traffic. What do you guys think?
- Can Air Koryo join One World if North Korea and South Korea get united and Air Koryo buys more Airbus or Boeing planes? Korea already has Star Alliance (Asiana) and Skyteam (Korean Air) airlines. If Kim jong un dies and these two Korea become one Korea, can Air Koryo join One World after buying more newer planes like the A320 or 737?
