What's a good inexpensive airline you recommend?

Southwest

The cheapest acceptable that flies your route.

Depends on where you live.

Of the discount airlines, Southwest is often considered the best. They have flexible policies, free checked bags, and generally friendly customer service.

The ultra-low-cost carriers are all about the same, and none are really that good - Frontier, Spirit, and Allegiant. Of them, I prefer Frontier. But again, none are stellar in terms of service and they all nickel-and-dime you with extra charges.

Keep in mind that these airlines are not all avaialble at all airports. It's common for only one discount carrier to operate out of any given airport. Some especially large airports will be served by several of these though.

Airline fares will keep rising but there's a sweet spot when the airlines begin to either lower or increase fares based on demand. Don't wait until the last second but neither book too far in advance. Book six to nine weeks before the flying date and get great deals. But airlines often increase their prices deliberately or lower them all at once. Make sure to check them to avoid last minute rush.

The best airline in the world does you absolutely no good if it doesn't fly from where you are to where you want to go.

"inexpensive"… Southwest. But only if they are going where you want to go. Maybe its because I really don't have a lot of money and if its a $200 ticket or $500 ticket I have to save up anyway… But the inexpensive flights are always the ones people complain about, have problems with, or never even make it to their destination. The difference between a basic economy ticket and a regular economy ticket can be as little as $70 and that $70 can be the difference between a great and a horrible flight. Buy the basic economy ticket, you can't use the overhead bin, and you have to pay full price to check your bag, buy the regular ticket you can just bring your bag onto the plane.

Some suggestions:
use your resources, wikipedia, google find out every airline that flies where your trying to go and shop rates
look for promos and sales
check the rates going out of other airports, it might pay to drive an hour or two.

just do not jump at the lowest price until you know what your getting.

The low cost airlines, Southwest, Frontier, Spirit etc… They operate to various locations from various locations. So it really is down to routing. You should research where you are planning to travel to and who operates from your departure city. Booking in advance also helps, as low cost and standard airlines tend to be cheaper the further in advance you book.

It depends on where you are flying. Assuming you are flying within the US, Southwest and JetBlue are pretty good. They post when they are having a fare sale. However these airlines do not fly everywhere and if the flight is short in duration, then flying American, Delta and United will be okay as well. These airlines will also sometimes have fare sales. Orbitz always sends me emails when an airline has a fare sale so you may want to open up an Orbitz account.
