Planes, trains, and automobiles
12:05am on 16 August is just after midnnight in the small hours of Thursday morning. You need to arrive at the airport around 10:00pm on Wednesday 15 August for an internal flight and an hour earlier for an international flight. If you arrive on 16 August, you'll have missed it.
Wednesday.
The flight is at five minutes past the last minute of Tuesday night, at 5 miniutes past the start of Wednesday morning which is in the middle of the night.
If it's an international flight, you meed to be at the airport 3 hours prior which would be 9:05 Wednesday night. If it's domestic, 90 to 120 minutes before. It also depends on the airport. Assuming you're flying somewhere on the west coast, there won't be too many flights at midnight so secuirty shouldnt be too bad.
I fly from Alaska a lot and most of my flights are between 11 pm and 3 am.
You can check in online 24 hours prior which would be 12:05 Wednesday morning.
Most airlines won't let you check luggage until 4 hours before departure
This is why international timetables use the 24-hour clock and DON'T use 'am' or 'pm'. That way there can be no doubt or ambiguity at all.
The day begins at 00:00, or midnight, and ends at 23:59, or one minute before the NEXT midnight.
I don't know whether your flight should really be '00:05' or '12:05'. The first is immediately after midnight; the second is a few minutes after midday.
Ask your airline to tell you the time by the 24 hour clock. In the US it's also called 'military time'. The military use it because they can't afford to waste time asking each other what 'am' and 'pm' mean.
That's why plane timings are in 24 hour format
your flight leaves 00:05 hrs on 16th August Thursday
please reach the airport at least 3 hours before departure
so you be present at the airport at 21:00 hrs (9 pm) on 15th
August Wednesday
There's no such time as 12:05am at midnight the clocks change to 00:00 so it starts going up again. If your ticket says departure at 12:05 then this is more likely to be midday rather than just after midnight. Check with the airline to ensure you know the correct departure time, if you are flying domestic you'll need to be at the airport 2 hours before and international 3 hours before.
Airport tickets go in 24 hour time so that is not 12:05 AM but actually 12:05 PM. You should arrive at the airport by at least 10:00 AM. Enjoy your flight!
