What is the likelihood of this happening, and if it does, do I have any recourse?
I have a 5:10 am flight with american airlines out of a local airport this coming friday. I would be sleeping from 10 pm thursday night and getting up around 3 am friday morning before leaving for the airport. How likely is it that while I'm sleeping they adjust my flight time, to the point that when I wake up at 3 am I will have missed my flight? If this happens, , do I have any kind of recourse?
Almost no chance that they will move the flight earlier.
First flights of the day tend to be on time.
It's extremely unlikely. Many airports have restricted times for take-offs and landings. They are simply not allowed to do either outside those times. And think about it for a minute: if a flight is suddenly scheduled to leave early, and if it's one of the first flights of the day, then all the people who have anything to do with that flight have to be notified to come in earlier. Pilots, flight attendants, baggage handlers, mechanics, air traffic controllers, desk staff, who knows who else. Do you really think they can tell all those people, after 10 pm at night when those people have probably been asleep for an hour or more, that they have to come to work an hour earlier the next morning?
The only time I have ever seen a flight leave early is when everyone who was supposed to be on it is on it and the plane is full. And that was 15 minutes early.
No. They'll never make it earlier- everyone would miss it. My airline sends me text messages with updates on flights- maybe that's because I'm a frequent flyer, but you might be able to set up alerts on their website. But they will NOT leave before the scheduled time.
The likelihood is pretty much zero. If a flight leaves early, it is only by a few minutes and because they have everyone on board. Since this flight is so earlier, it is even closer to zero because the crew probably had an overnight layover and most airports won't allow flights to leave during certain late night/early morning hours.
That being said, I hope you live very close to the airport, because that doesn't leave you a lot of time to get out of the house and get there within the recommended arrival time.
There's very little chance they would make a last-minute change such that it leaves that much earlier. Honestly, I'd say there's zero chance.
On another note, make sure you will be getting to the airport in plenty of time. They usually recommend arriving at the airport 2 hours before departure, although that's usually not necessary for such an early flight and especially if it's a small airport. But it would make me nervous to just be waking up 2 hours before departure.
If you miss your flight, that's entirely your fault and problem - the airline won't give you a free ticket because you've overslept
They would NEVER change your flight to an EARLIER time. It may get delayed, but they would never make it earlier.
The flight timings will not be changed, if you miss it that is your problem.
What is the likely hood of missing your plane because you arrive at the Airport to late to board? Very good.
You can deliberately push the limits hoping to be last on board as the door closes.
Planes rarely depart early.
It would be prudent to be at the Airport with sufficient time to check in and go through the security line and then be at the gate about 30 minutes before departure.
That it is a major travel day you can expect the Airport to be much busier than normal with many first time flyers and children slowing up the lines.
It is a peak travel day.
YOUR flight is not the only flight the security lines, parking lots and roads need to deal with.
IF the plane departs early they will make arrangements for your travel at a later time. YOU DID NOT WIN THE LOTTERY and get a free vacation.
That you miss your flight because you were delayed getting to the gate. TOO BAD for you. They will sell you a ticket for another flight.
Zero chance they change flight time to an earlier hour, if its changed to a later time it will be because of a delay
I have been flying for 50 years and never had a flight changed to an earlier departure
Hope you live close to the airport because you need to be there 2 hours before flight time for domestic flights 3 hours for international so that means you need to be at the airport by 3:15, if you are not and miss your flight that's all on you
- Asthma suffers do you have any problems taking your inhalers through Airport security? I'm off to Canada tomorrow from Heathrow and I have packed two inhalers in my hand luggage, they are in a clear re-sealable bag, I don't have the original box or prescription. Should this cause any issues? Has anyone else had any issues getting inhalers through Airport security?
- Connection flight any where .will i be given free hotel rooms by the airlines or do we have to pay for it.because it a very long gap? Connection flight any where. Will i be given free hotel rooms by the airlines or do we have to pay for it. Because it a very long gap?
- Do I have to be questioned by any US airport CBP officers if I have Global Entry? I'm American by the way. I was coming into LAX from Switzerland and was treated like a Colombian drug lord, so that's why I asked. Lol
- First time booking through trip.com and my flights are with Scoot and Cebu Pacific Airlines. I'm unsure where I can checkin and put add ons? Is there an option to check in and add some add ons through trip.com or directly with Scoot and Ceb Pac? However, I tried managing my bookings separately on their respective websites but they both say they can't find my booking or whatever… My flight is still in a month but I d like to worry about it now than when it's nearer and I doubt they won't appear there because I've had flights before that I was able to add to my manage bookings months ahead.
