I'm flying by myself for the first time in a week and I'm quite nervous - 2
So i'm 17 I have flown a few times before 5 times (well 10 if you count there and back) the last time was over a year ago, this isn't the first time flying without my parents as I went on a school trip but this it's my first time going to the airport by myself checking in, going through security, getting my gate boarding etc I have flown from this airport 4 of the 5 times so i'll probably know my way when I get there but as of now I can't think of a what to do when I get there its dublin airport if anyone has been there I use to not care too much about flying but lately now that I have to do it all by myself I'm quite nervous but I go in and out about being kind of scared and then other times I'm kind of came about it, I don't usually have seats beside who I'm flying with and the flight is only around 2hr30 mins( the longest i've been on is just over 3 hours) so I'm not sure why I'm scared/nervous so can anyone help any tips of what to do how to calm myself/ stop overthinking it? Anything at all that will help thank you so much!
Yea i hate flying. I recommend classical music for earbuds and something soothing to smell, like a lavendar sachet.
Airline employees are very helpful and will answer any question you have. If you are unsure about where to go next or what to do, ask them. One in uniform.
As you land they should announce the gate your bags will be at. Everyone will be going to baggage, just follow them.
Download some of your favorite shows. Don't watch them until you are on the plane. Something to look forward to. I binged watched "Stranger Things" on a flight to California. Made the time go quick
I'm always nervous flying alone, I check everything three times. But it is fun too. An adventure.
Don't keep asking the same question
The important thing is to allow yourself PLENTY of time. As long as you have time to pause and look around you now and again, to see what's going on, and to find directions to wherever you're going, there's no need to be more than averagely nervous.
When you get to the airport don't waste time having a farewell coffee with your friends or family; get right on with checking in or getting your baggage handed over, if this applies to you.
At each point, just ASK, 'Where do I go next?' and GO there. There's no reason why you should gallop through the airport in a panic; as I said, pause and look around from time to time.
Whenever you're not sure what to do, ASK. Airports are full of people who've never flown before, and you have at least done that.
Once you're through the passport check (assuming there's one) and the security check - again, just pause and watch to see what people are doing; step aside and re-arrange your bag of shampoo, liquids, whatever, if necessary) - you'll be through into the Departures lounge, where the Gate for your flight might, or might not yet, be shown on the Departures board.
Make sure you know roughly where it is, and how long it's likely to take to walk to it, then relax, but keep an eye on the board in case your Gate number is changed.
The moment the display says 'Boarding', start walking to the gate. Don't hang about but don't rush either.
And always remember, you can ASK.
- Plane ticket has first, middle and last name but my passport only has first and last name? I'm flying Scandinavian Airlines and my plane ticket has my first, middle, and last name but my passport only has my first and last name. Does anyone have any experience with this or think it will be an issue? I called the travel agency and they told me they could not do anything to correct the middle name. I was also thinking about bringing another form of ID like a birth certificate or social security card to be safe.
- First time flying with stops? So is Christmas season and I'm traveling from the US to Mexico for the holidays, I have already flying from point A to point B but I never have from point A to point B and C ( or city stops) so I'm nervous. How early have to be on the airport? Is one hour enough to switch from one plane to other? How long can it take on immigration and still have to take the second plane?
- Going through immigration and costums at narita airport nervous never traveled abroad before how easy is it? I'm going to Japan in September and I have never travelled abroad I will be at terminal 1. What is it like going through immigration and costums. I have all the proper information as well. I know they finger print you and you sign a form on the plane. I'm flying from lax airport. I'm a but nervous. Will it be a breeze i'm landing at 7 pm
- Is it normal to be nervous when you are about to go on your first flight on a commercial airline by yourself? I've flown several times but Wednesday will be the first time I will have flown by myself. I'm a bit nervous. Not about the actual flying but just flying alone. I'm trying to look at it as adventure.
