What is the surgery called to expand the airway breathing of flat nosed dogs?
I'm concerned about my Pug puppies breathing, he frequently makes snorting and snoring noises every now and then.
Its just what pugs sound like.
I've only ever heard of a vet adding a hole in the throat, but nothing else

This explanation should help. Noel has done a number of these surgeries, but he's costly, and you'll need a reference from your vet… And to live in the UK presumably!
Ask your vet, as there are none on this site, nor can anyone including a vet examine your dog on line, guesses are often wrong, that's why they're called guesses. And don't get another "flat nosed" dog in the future, problem solved.
Pugs & other dogs with the smashed in faces make all kinds of noises, snorting, blowing snot, grunting, snoring, wheezing, rumbles in the nasal passage. If it is far more than what is usual, take the pup in to see a Vet. All these noises are normal but some dogs do have a breathing problems because of the smashed in face.
Ask the treating vet
- How dangerous is breathing in bad smells? I was at security at an airport and it smelled pretty bad and was wondering if that can affect or damage the body in any permanent way.
- Can airline pilots have service dogs/esa dogs? If so, do they bring them into the cockpit? It's just a question that popped into my head and when I looked it up I didn't see anything on it so I thought I should ask on here and see if anyone knows.
- Why doesn't the Bulldog Club of America website mention brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome? Even the Pug club acknowledges that they are breeding dogs with an unnatural skull shape that predisposes their dogs to poor breathing. It honestly seems like the Bulldog club is in a state of denial about the abysmal health of their breed.
