What is it like to be a flight attendant for domestic airlines?
Its all up and downs.
Hard work…
It's a tough job until you get seniority privileges.
It looks like a great job. From what I see, they serve snacks/drinks, help secure the overhead compartments and do the safety show.
I'm sure they're trained for emergencies and have certain responsibilities that are not seen.
But all in all, it looks like a pretty simple job. I'm sure they get discounts on flights and I have seen attendants get off with luggage.
It is a job.
You work assorted irregular shifts for a few years at the start.
You have a few hours to explore far off place every week or two.
You live out of a small suitcase. You can have more but it just slows you down.
You need to arrange home life for your absence be that a weekend, overnight or the middle of the day. Things like childcare or pet care have to be arranged in advance to cover unexpected flight diversions, flight cancellations that happen in the regular day to day of airline job.
You sleep on days off usually NEAR your base. The first few months you may only get a few hours notice for next shift. Could be early morning or late at night. Up to you to get yourself to shift start place.
When away from home the Airline does help with meals and a place to sleep. YOU ARE NOT on some unlimited room service vacation.A ride from the Airport, some sleep and back to Airport for next flight.
Some like the variety and chance to explore an hour or two different places. You work holiday times. Expect your vacations NOT to be at the most popular places. The cheap flights are easiest to those places the planes are not near full.
It is a job. The pay is not huge. It is not bad per month. It does take a few years to get the seniority to bid on the flight schedule you like and few more years to bid on the premium flight routes of the Airline you work for.
Some like it and some quit after a few months as it is not some glamorous non stop vacation travelling the world.
You are on your feet most of your shift. Most of your shift is rather routine and not very exciting.
On occasion you get to deal with obnoxious passengers, medical emergencies and other stuff.
OBVIOUSLY a domestic Airline does not have much international travel but you may meet passengers from many lands.
Of course you know there are about 200 other jobs at Airlines and Airports. Flight attendant is just one of them.
It is estimated about 100 apply for each open position. You NEED more than just the list of minimum qualifications for a good chance of interview.
- Martial arts courses mention on CV for flight attendant position? I make my CV for Emirates Airlines for an upcoming open day in my city. As long as I know from their website Emirates provide Security training to their cabin crew. So should I mention my Martial arts background and certifications on my CV? Would the recruiter mind?
- Do you need to wear a suit for a video interview for Delta airlines flight attendant? So I applied for flight attendant position and got invited to do a video interview. Just want to know if anyone who has done this video interview for flight attendant before if you need to wear a suit for it or is that only for the one on one interview?
- Why do pilots still go to bathroom without having flight attendant in the cockpit? Hi. I thought a flight attendant should go into the cockpit when one of the pilots go to the bathroom because of what the German wing first officer pilot did to the airbus plane. But I was surprised when I saw an Air France A318 pilot getting out of the cockpit and going to the bathroom without having a second person in the cockpit when I was traveling from Paris to Geneva two months ago. Isn't it very dangerous? I thought the rules were changed after that German wings incident?
- What will commercial planes look like in near future like 2 years from now? Will hybrid airliner be mainstream widespread in our lifetime will hybrid airplanes mean the end of boeing 737 and Airbus a320 production will airlines stop buying fuel efficient planes like boeing 737 max airbus a320neo
