Does the president fly onto major airports?
Only at certain times. Normally, he lands at an air force base.
He will if he has to. Usually it's safer, easier to arrange, less disruptive if he lands at a nearby military base.
Minor airports can't handle the landing needs of a Boeing 747-200B aircraft, such as length of runway.
Not usually.
Only if he has to for two reasons - AFB's are more secure and will have runway long enough for AF-1
They try to land at an Air Force or other military base, but will land at commercial airports if there isn't a base avaialble.
And they actually have a smaller plane that they can use when flying into smaller airports. Our local airport is very small and has a relatively short runway, so this is the plane that comes.
Depends on a lot of factors. They try to use the closest airport to where the President is going. As others have stated, they do try to use military bases but it just depends on a lot of things. The main factor is the aircraft. If the President is flying on the main aircraft, the 747, then the runway has to be long enough so not all military bases have long enough runways.
If the President does use a commercial airport, it's a pain. Any time Air Force One (any aircraft which the president is on) lands or departs from a commercial airport, there's a ground stop of ALL traffic. This goes for planes, luggage carts and anything on the tarmac. As long as the president is on airport property, no one goes anywhere. I worked at DIA for awhile and this happened twice.
However, for security purposes, they rarely disclose information in advance except to those who need to know.
Yes, when that is what is nearby. The first choice is usually a military base, but those aren't all over the place anymore and a lot of them are in the middle of nowhere. He will also fly into smaller airports as long as they can handle the plane.
Yes but it is preferred military bases because of preventative maint on the plain escort planes, security etc…
- Would american airlines allow a 1yd blanket onto the plane? - 1 I've made a baby blanket for my sister in-laws baby shower, but it is too large to fit into my carry on or my personal item. It's small enough to sit on my lap during the flight.
- Am I allowed to bring a shampoo bottle onto a plane or no? In 4 days I'm going back to Florida, going on Jetblue. I'm bringing a backpack and a luggage but I'm gonna check in my luggage so I'm just carrying my bag. Am I allowed to put like a 8 inch shampoo bottle into my backpack (I'm gonna wear my backpack inside the airport).
- How is it that people manage to sneak onto airport flights? From my understanding, you can't make it past security, without a ticket, nor a boarding pass, but even if they didn't have a luggage, it would still be impossible, I imagine.
- Can I become an airline pilot for a major airline if I go to college for a computer science degree (Bachelors Degree)? And also why is their so much debt in order to be a airline pilot? Is it because of people choosing the "go to college for aviation" sort of route?
