American Airlines flight has no tv; does stream to device work over oceans?

I have a flight booked from Dallas to go home to Puerto Rico nonstop on American. I checked online in the American Airlines entertainment website and it says personal device the plane is a Boeing 737-800… Will it actually work or not? I'm thinking it won't work for the entirety of the flight because most of the flight will be over the ocean. I flew to Dallas with Delta had a layover in Atlanta they had tvs, they had stream to device from ATL to DAL but that flight was mostly over land. Anyone experienced w/ AA on flights like this? Just want to make sure, if not I'll download some movies or something to keep me busy.

The internet will switch between air tower and satellite, as needed.
It doesn't matter that you are over the ocean.

But if you want to make sure you have something to do… Download the movies. You don't know if your plane's entertainment might be broken or weather might impact the reception.

Most inflight Wi-Fi restricts the use of streaming, as the bandwidth is too great. You should download films or tv programs for watching.

Download some movies to be safe. I have occasionally had issues on a couple airlines with the inflight entertainment app.
Even flying over water with no internet connection, you can still access the library of movies and TV shows they offer. You just can't access the internet.

You usually can't stream of a flight anyway as the bandwidth needed is too much. Really, I have rarely even had to open up my e-reader on a flight. And the video selection available on planes equipped with it is always sufficient though and between that and everything else and sleeping. Take some movies with you. Just remember that if you take a 4 hour flight you may only have enough time to actually watch just one movie.
