Getting to the JFK airport from the port authority bus terminal in New York City?

I have never been to New York City and am a little worried as I have never been there and all the people and traffic. I need to get to the airport in under 4 hours. Which is the simplest option? How much would a Uber or can cost?

You can catch a bus from Port Authority to JFK. When you arrive there, ask for it. They go all the time.

If you take the bus, as Flower has suggested, you'll get there in well under 4 hours, unless there's a MAJOR system-wide melt-down. In that case, nothing will get you thereā€¦ And that's not going to happen, anyway.

There are phone apps or online, the MTA trip planner

Walk south on 8th Avenue to 34 th street
Go to the NW corner of 8th Ave and 34 th street
Head East towards the Empire State Building
About halfway down the block on your right you will see a sign saying
Penn Station / Long Island Rail Road
Take a long escalator ride down to the LIRR ticket office and lobby
Buy a one way ticket to Jamaica AND a $5.00 MetroCard for the AirTrain
When you get off at Jamaica head up to the next level and take the AirTrain to JFK
Worst possible case the trip takes you ninety minutes

SInce you're already at PABT, the simplest way is to hop on the E train to Jamaica Station and then the Air Train to JFK. You're not affected by traffic this way but time of day might be an issue - i.e. Evening rush hour.

Total cost will be under $8 - $2.75 for subway and $5 for Air Train

The A train goes to JFK
