What is the cheapest way to get to DFW Airport for a 1-month trip?
I'm going to England for about a month around Christmas, and I live in OKC. I find a wildly cheaper flight on Iceland Air, but the catch is that I'd somehow have to hoof it to DFW airport, but it'd save a couple thousand (I have multiple passengers). What would be the cheapest way to get there and back? And getting driven by a friend is not an option, as the few people I know who might be able to drive 4 hours on a workday are unfortunately occupied.
Do some research. You'll find a way
The cheapest way will be walking, which BTW, is what "hoofing it" means.
Have you looked at taking a small commuter flight? Or a train? Car2Go?
I've even rented a car to get from the airport to another location and turned the car in once I arrived. It was cheaper than a shuttle, car service, or taxi.
Rent a car the night before. Drive it to the airport and return it. When you get back, rent a car and drive it home. Return it within 24 hours of renting. Make reservations for both.
That depends on how many people there are. If there are enough to fill a vehicle, then renting one may be best. Otherwise, the bus is almost always the cheapest option, though it can be slow.
One way car rental.Driver 25-70 years old. $150 one day one way plus $25 gasoline for $175. CDW insurance another $11
Amtrak 100 South E.K. Gaylord Boulevard Oklahoma City, OK 73102 to 1001 Jones St, Fort Worth, TX 76102
8:25 am - 12:27 pm
approximate $31 a ticket one way
Go Yellow Checker Shuttle has a $100 private van shuttle for up to 10 passengers and lower cost for fewer passengers.
There's public transportion possible also.
Greyhoud bus station is at 1948 E Reno Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73117
205 S Lamar St Dallas, TX 75202
Also about $31/passeger each way
From Oklahoma if you have not yet purchased your ticket there are many other ways to get to UK cheap.
Iceland Air does have a good price there are others. Check with a HUMAN travel agent.
WARNING the cheap seat means you pay extra for luggage. Keep it light.
(I have multiple passengers) Shall we all guess is that five adults with three suitcases each., a few children with small bags or what?
With out more detail probably best to rent a van to have room for the luggage and other passengers.
As it is a busy time and WINTER it happens that storms happen that disrupt normal travel times. DO NOT aim for arriving a few minutes before departure.
As you are going to and from a large city up to you to check the many locations near you to pick up your rental. The Airport locations are usually more expensive.
As it is a busy travel time it is a very good idea to reserve your choice soon. They do not have an unlimited supply
Plan on about a five hour travel time allowing time to return your rental. And not perfect driving conditions while deciding your options.
Taking a train or bus is cheap but you then have to add the expense of getting to and from the bus/train station at each end for more than three usually more expensive than renting something and driving yourself.
If none in your group can drive then obviously this is not an option.
At Christmas time planes are near full if there's weather issues affecting your flight you might need to wait days before you get a replacement flight. It is not just the weather in Dallas that can mess things up.
Enjoy your visit many different Christmas traditions to see and experience.
In the period around Christmas, airfares vary dramatically from one day to the next, depending on the travel day.
I checked airfares in December from both OKC and DFW to London. I did not find Icelandair (from DFW) being cheaper than airlines such as United (from OKC) for instance.(Edit: it may also happen that your good deal from DFW is no longer available).
Maybe you may save a lot of money simply by changing your travel dates from OKC airport. Otherwise, see the other answers that may help you.
Another answer is correct and the least expensive + most convenient way to get from Oklahoma City to DFW airport with a group is almost certainly to rent a vehicle.
Iceland Air departs at about 4:00 pm going to London. It takes at least three hours of driving to get from Oklahoma City to Dallas, and you need to allow for delays plus the time needed to turn in the rental car. The Iceland Air flights to DFW arrive in the evening, so if you rent a car to drive home you will get in quite late at night.
Do check with a human travel agent to find out how much it will be to buy the Iceland Air ticket with connecting flights between OKC and DFW. Make sure you know if the airline you use to fly to DFW can transfer luggage to Iceland Air or if you will have to collect your luggage and take it to the check in desk.
