Free wine on Air France flights?

I travel the same route quite often (Birmingham to Paris CDG) and as I usually travel with Ryanair/EasyJet was pleasantly surprised with my free sandwich and can of coke the first time I flew with Air France! Until my flight this evening where after asking for a coke, realised the man next to me had asked for wine (and it was free!) even In economy. Is this always the case for Air France even on short haul flights? Anyone know if it is time dependant? I'm taking a flight at 10am next week, but I might fancy an early drink or could even save it for later.

Wine is bad

Air France is one of the better airlines for economy. They do in fact offer free booze in economy class for all flights unless prohibited by local law or aircraft. You can confirm this in the inflight magazine or drink menu usually found in the seatback pockey.
most airlines still offer free booze on international and or long haul flights except for ultra discount carriers of course. Just ask how much the bloody mary is and they'll giggle and give you a double

En francais, s'il vous plait?

Many non-US airlines provide wine and/or beer.

Yes, the French like their wine. And most airlines in Europe (with the possible exception of British Airways) are not as profit driven as the US airlines are. They serve better food and more drinks. I'm assuming you're talking about Birmingham UK. Birmingham, Alabama doesn't have an international airport, but all flights from the US to Europe have food and drinks.

Budget carriers such as RyanAir never provide 'free' food and drink, you are expected to pay for it. With the more reputable airlines food and drink is included in the ticket price, so the cost of your ticket was probably higher than a RyanAir flight on the same route.
