How do I make the airplane align with a runway using a NDB or VOR approach?

I'm approaching the airport, I have the NDB or VOR frequency already on my NAV radios, I put the autopilot on Approach or Navigation? Either way nothing happens. I'm using Microsoft Flight Simulator

Until I got to that last sentence I thought
a couple dozen people are about to have a bad day.

You can't unless it's a VOR… You have the appropriate front course selected on the CDI, and it's lined up with the airport.

Approach won't work because it's a VOR, not an ILS or GPS LP or LPV approach. Nav will only work if the selected radial is close enough for the aircraft to capture.

You can't track to or from an NDB using aircraft automation unless you are using the INS or GPS waypoint associated with it.

In reality, VOR approaches are rare. GPS LPV approaches are the most common and ILS approaches are the second most common. On a visual day, you can set up a GPS waypoint typically from 3-6 miles away from the airport to line you up with the runway.

Not only on line sources like Youtube videos how to, but there are some excellent books to teach you all about MSFS and navigation, landings, many other things.
For general piloting, the FAA sells an inexpensive "Airplane Flying Handbook", FAA-H-8083-3B from ASA at www.asa2fly.com or 800-ASA-2-FLY

Oh. You flyboys crack me up!
