Problem flying with a samourai sword?
In 1999, I flew from UK to Portugal with a samourai sword (value: $15,000! - and I have the skills to use it).
It was taken (with as mile) to the flight deck, and returned to me in Faro airport.
As a pilot, I often flew with TAP, in the jump seat.
Since 9-11, things have changed…
Now… How can I air travel to, say, China, Japan, or even UK, with that weapon?
One way only: as checked hold baggage.
I would have thought that answer was glaringly obvious to anyone claiming to have been an airline pilot!
Hi, it's been awhile. Anyway, the only method now is via checked baggage or insured and tracked air freight. You'd be wise to use a secure, high quality travel case and have it heavily insured, whether as baggage or freight.
It is taken to the check-in and declared as a weapon, put in luggage - but if you were in the jump seat I would think you would know that.
YOU CAN't
If you were a pilot, you should know you can't take a samurai sword on a plane. HELL, YOU CAN't EVEN SPELL THE WORD. I think you are a liar. I have seen quite a few of your questions, and it seems that you lie about a lot of things.
IF you were telling the truth, I t would have to be put in the baggage dept, with all of the other luggage. You don't get any special treatment. You can't even take a bottle of shampoo on a plane, and you think they will let you take a sword on the flight? You are delusional. And who cares how much it costs, you're probably lying about that too.
Sorry, but I'm afraid you are a fraud, even in 1999 it would not have been acceptable, today you are 100% restricted to carrying such items only in checked luggage, and only in accordance with the airlines rules.
If it is a real Japanese katana, do NOT take it to Japan. They will seize it and you will have to prove it is a modern reconstruction and you bought it outside of Japan. If it is a real classic from WW II or older you will not be getting it back.
So? I'm an ex marine corp
Check it into the hold. It isn't even an issue.
FYI you need to learn to spell Samurai. "and I have the skills to use it" Yeah right.
You're just a fantacist. "as a pilot" more fantasy.
How do you imagine your having the skills to use the sword would make the slightest difference to any answer about how you would pack it for flying?
- I did an interview for Delta airlines and in the video interview I accidentally said American Airlines? Has anyone else had this problem? I caught it very quickly and said delta immediately and kept saying delta in the other answers. Do you think it can cost me the next step of the process?
- First time flying with stops? So is Christmas season and I'm traveling from the US to Mexico for the holidays, I have already flying from point A to point B but I never have from point A to point B and C ( or city stops) so I'm nervous. How early have to be on the airport? Is one hour enough to switch from one plane to other? How long can it take on immigration and still have to take the second plane?
- I'm flying out of the Hartsfield/Jackson airport early Friday morning and need parking information I don't want to park at a hotel unless I have to. Does anyone have information on parking at the airport and if I can pay the morning of my flight? Prices would be nice too. TIA!
- What's the exact meaning of flying in? Does it mean hopping on a plane or arriving at your destination? I recently got asked by one of my friends when I'm flying in. Then I just wondered if he meant by when i'm arriving at the airport or hopping on the plane. any help is appreciated.
