What to do with my suitcase?
So I'm going on a trip to Italy. The last time I went I flew from TN to NY then NY to Paris. But when I when I got to Paris I found out my suitcase was taken off the plane and was sent inside NY Airport and not on my plane. I had the ticket on my suitcase that said Florence Italy on it.
So my question is am I supposed to get my bags from the airport from the states and make sure they are on the plane or just go straight to my next gate and it's supposed to be put on each plane I fly
Your luggage will be tagged at check-in for the
final destination, if you are flying on the same
airline all the way
Last time, if you bought one ticket from home to NY, and then"another separate" ticket to Paris, you were responsible for getting your bag and taking it to the next flight check-in. For THIS trip, if you booked all at once to go from home to your final destination, no matter how many times you change planes, the AIRPORT will move your bags from one plane to the other. Verify this when you FIRST check your bag for the first airline.
If you book your flight on one itinerary, then your luggage will be checked through to your destination. If you book separate tickets for the separate flights then you will need to collect your bags and recheck them. What happened last time was probably a mistake.
Normally, baggage will automatically transferred to connecting flights especially if your flights are on the same or partner airlines.
Baggage is normally checked through
You learned a valuable lesson about why you are advised never to place any documents concerning your flight in checked luggage
- I'm taking my first flight ever and it's with Alaska airlines. I don't have a suitcase, so I'm bringing a large duffel bag. Is this okay? I would rather not be charged extra! The bag is a little longer than a normal suitcase but a lot thinner
- Is my suitcase tag innacurate, or am I an idiot? I've never flown before, so I'm a little nervous about it. But I got a suitcase, and on the tag, it says it's dimensions add up to 62 inches, which is the maximum allowed for American Airlines without paying $200. However, when i measure the suitcase, i get 65 inches. Is it possible that what the tag says is innacurate and that the airline will make me pay a fee for the extra size, or am I just bad at measuring?
