Flight Cancellation Southwest?

We leave from Newark and are flying to Orlando early next week with Southwest Airlines. I'm very worried that the flight will be cancelled due to the forecasted snow. In general or from personal experiences, how good is Southwest at rebooking cancelled flights? We absolutely need to get to Orlando before our cruise ship leaves on Sunday afternoon.

Added (1). The flight is supposed to leave on Saturday afternoon

They cover it for you and give you first class tickets and free hotels

They are pretty good about it and making sure that they pay for costs that may have arose from this event

You were smart to schedule your flight for the day before the cruise. I haven't seen anything suggesting a lot of snow- and Newark is pretty good at staying open during snow. But if your flight is cancelled, they'll put you on the first flight that gets out.

IF the flight is cancelled. You get re booked. NEXT AVAILABLE SEAT. Could be an hour could be days later. YOU DO NOT GET PRIORITY NEXT FLIGHT.
That is the risk you take when flying. WEATHER EVENTS HAPPEN.
You have done part of it by booking to fly on Saturday AFTERNOON. If possible see if you can go earlier in the day.

Flights can get cancelled for many reasons not just the weather. MOST flights depart without issue.

Irregular Operations
Delays and Cancellations
Southwest does its best to operate our flights as scheduled. Sometimes, events beyond our
control or situations we could not anticipate
prevent us from doing so. If, for any reason, your
Southwest Airlines flight does not operate as scheduled, we will, at your request, refund the
unused portion of your fare, or we will assist you by arranging to transport you to your
destination on another Southwest flight with available seats. If you elect to take an alternate
Southwest flight, we will not charge you any more money even if your Ticket for the disrupted
flight has usage limits or fare restrictions.

Weather at some other Airport could affect your flight.

First off "Saturday Afternoon" is not "early next week". But you were still smart in booking a flight a day ahead of time of your cruise, as you can handle minor delays without jeopardizing your cruise.

If your flight is not cancelled then you should be okay as long as you check-in as early as possible and be sure you are at the airport in plenty of time(2 hours before is recommended). As for being cancelled, planes take-off and land all the time in snow, it may delay them but it takes a major storm to actually cancel a flight, and I'm not sure where you are looking at your information but I don't see anything like that in the forecast as of yet.

If your flight is Cancelled then by "how good" they are do you mean how quickly they rebook? If that is the case it all depends on several factors. The biggest is how many flights were cancelled and how many people they need to rebook them on. It also depends on how many flights they have going to the destination. A major storm that shuts down an airport for 2-3 days could take 3-5 days to get everyone rebooked on new flights. If only a few flights were cancelled it can usually be cleared up fairly quickly.

They don't give priority to people for one reason or another. As I can guarantee you are not the only person going to Orlando that has a ship or some other vacation they have to get to. Priority is basically first come.first served. So if you were on one of the first flights cancelled you would be one of the first people to get rebooked. If you were on one of the last flights. You may have quite a wait.

In rebooking you may end up on a different flight, such as instead of a direct flight to Orlando, for example you could end up on a flight to Kansas City, and then Orlando.

If you are really that worried about it, you can ask them options to rebook your flight for an earlier departure. Just realize if there's no major impact expected from a storm where they have implemented their Severe Weather Policy, you may be subject to additional cost if there's a differences in fares… If there are even any flights available.

Southwest is pretty good about this. Generally they have a no questions asked policy where if you need to cancel your flight or your flight gets canceled they just credit you 100% of the money towards another flight. I have only ever once flown with them and got my fight canceled, and they just booked me to the next flight
