Southwest airlines Early Bird 36 hours check-in option?

I purchased the Early Bird check in and it's supposed to let you check in 36 hours before the standard 24 hour check in.
First question: Will it automatically check in for me?
Second question: has anyone gotten this and still ended up getting the C group position?

I did it once, and it was very confusing. I would go on 36 hours ahead, if I were you. I've been on at exactly the first minute I could, and still been well back in the A group or even in the B group. The frequent fliers get on first.

Will it automatically check in for me? NO

YES, this does check you in automatically. Once purchased, you do not have to do anything more to check in for your flight. You can log in and and your boarding pass and position will already be ready for you.

I have always been in A when using it. It just depends on how many people on your flight purchase it. It doesn't guarantee that you'll be in group A, but I find it unlikely that you'd be in C.

Will it automatically Check-You in - No, however it does automatically assign you your boarding order so regardless of when you Check-In you will receive the same position. Your position is determined by when you purchased the Early-Bird option but will rarely be higher than A-15 as those are reserved for the higher tickets and Frequent Flyers with higher status.

As for still getting a "C" group, while they don't limit the Early Bird Check-In I don't think they ever have more than a small percentage of people who do this. So while I'm sure it may have happened, it is the exception and not the rule.

If you are worried about getting a less desirable seat and can't be online exactly 24 hours before your flight it may be a good option.
