How early can I show up at airport?

I've got a pretty unusual situation going on with my transportation to the airport. Flying standby, and also some issues with subway being down during ideal commute time.

Is it okay to show up like 4 to 5 hours before the flight and sleep on the floor? Either pre TSA or preferablly post TSA?

Added (1). this is JFK international airport, NYC

You can show up anytime you want. As long as you're willing to sit around or maybe visit stores near the airport, you'll be fine.

I dropped by mom off st the airport about 3 hours before takeoff and there was no problem.

Contact the airport to check and see. I've been at airports that pretty much shut down pre-TSA between certain hours. You can't check luggage or check in, and the TSA lines are closed. Contact the airport and find out if they do this, and when you can show up.

4 hours

I've done that. I was flying out of Rome at 6 am and I was so afraid of not being able to get a taxi at 4 am that I slept on the floor overnight with about 20 other strangers.

You can show up any time you like and sleep anywhere you like that's open to the public. Large airports are open 24/7 with maintenance and repairs going on, though the stores and most restaurants are not open at night. Check-in counters and security checkpoints aren't open, either, if there are no flights departing in the next hour or so. Things generally start to come to life again at around 5 am. Small airports may close the doors at night. I don't know. I've been in several international airports overnight, not any small ones.

Probably whenever you want but it nnight be nnore connfortable to sleep on a chair

Pretty much any time. JFK is open 24 hours however not all TSA check points are open 24 hours. Additionally, between 9 pm and 5 am, very little is open as far as concessions and shops. Worst case, you'll be stuck in the ticketing area.

JFK is open 24 hours. If security lines are open, then you should be able to go through and crash wherever you like. If they aren't, then you'll have to hang out in the public areas until they open.

You can't sleep on the floor. You can go that early, but you'll have to sit in a chair.

The earlier the better
