I just volunteered to give my seat up for a travel voucher. Do I even need to show up to original flight? I can drive home in rental?

I volunteered my seat upon check in for my flight with united from Chicago to Cincinnati. I could easily drive there and make it back to Cincinnati faster than my original flight in my rental. Do I need to be present at the airport for my original flight to redeem the travel voucher?

Duh, ask the desk agent.

Ask THEM. Don't you think they would know the answer far better than any random Internet stranger?

I'm not at the air port duh. I was just killing some time hoping someone has been through something similar.

If you volunteer at check in, that just means you're on the list. YES, you must still show up at the gate for the flight because they may not need your seat. They will not issue any vouchers until after you have been bumped and the flight has closed.
For every time I volunteer at check in, 3 times I end up not getting bumped for every time I do get bumped

  • Will I need a second seat on an airplane? My grade 12 band class is going on a summer break field trip to Ontario next week but I'm worried I might need a 2nd seat. I read a PDF on airplane seats and apparently they range from 17-18 inches and my "surface measurement" is around 23-24 inches. Would the airline be a little more lenient since its a whole class trip? I could use some feedback because I might just end up not going. It would be super embarrassing if I had to get a second seat in front of my class.

Flying standby, and also some issues with subway being down during ideal commute time. Is it okay to show up like 4 to 5 hours before the flight and sleep on the floor? Either pre TSA or preferablly post TSA? this is JFK international airport, NYC
  • I'm going to London and then Paris. So I was wondering can I just do the VAT refund when I just arrive at the Paris airport (CDG)? B/c I know I'm just going to spent the most of in London and Paris its just going to be food/ cheap souvenirs. Also, for the reason that I did not account for how much time the VAT refund line may take and I already booked when my hotel car will pick me up to depart back home. Including, all the websites I checked they keep telling me that I should go do my VAT refund before I leave Europe.Therefore, it would to appreciated if I got an answer.
