I'm flying internationally for the first time and am in need of travel tips/advice?

I'm mostly looking for advice or tips or any knowledge on the airports/flight part of things. I've never been on a plane before.

How does checked baggage works, just like the system/routine of it? I've heard there's a apart of the airport you can't go to without a ticket, is the baggage claim before or after that (someone's picking me up from the airport when I land, so do I need to get my bag first or can I find them first).

How does security work? Is there anything I should know about that that'd be helpful or make it go quickly?

I've never been inside of an airport ;^^ So I have no idea what to expect or what to look for/how to navigate it.

I'd love any advice when it comes to getting a phone plan (mostly just need the internet) internationally. I'm staying for a little over 3 weeks. What's the cheapest option?

Is there any paperwork/IDs I may need? I know a passport and visa is needed. Is there anything else? I'm traveling from the US to Australia.

And basically anything else you think would be helpful or good to know would be greatly appreciated!

I'll let others answer most of your questions, but be prepared for a very long flight. It's like 16 hours from LAX to Sydney.

  • First time flyer tips? In a couple months, I'll be taking a 5 hour flight to MA, but I've never ever been on a plane. I've never even been in an airport. I'm trying to get as much information as possible so that I don't humiliate myself and/or do something just plain stupid. Any tipa would be greatly appreciated!
  • Advice for first time flight alone? I'm 18 and although a frequent flyer I'm about to fly alone for the first time ever and to make it worse the flight is 15 hours the longest I've ever done before is 11 with family what can I do since I won't know anyone? And any advice for getting through the airport without panicking
  • First time booking through trip.com and my flights are with Scoot and Cebu Pacific Airlines. I'm unsure where I can checkin and put add ons? Is there an option to check in and add some add ons through trip.com or directly with Scoot and Ceb Pac? However, I tried managing my bookings separately on their respective websites but they both say they can't find my booking or whatever… My flight is still in a month but I d like to worry about it now than when it's nearer and I doubt they won't appear there because I've had flights before that I was able to add to my manage bookings months ahead.
  • My first time ever flying on a plane is next month and I'm confused? I have severe anxiety and I'm just hoping I don't feel overwhelmed trying to find my terminal. Is it fairly easy to find? Who could I ask for assistance so I don't end up missing my plane? I'm flying with Alaska airlines
