Can you bring dumbbells to an airport/plane/carry on bag?

Yes

Probably

Be sure to provide air holes so they can breathe and a few of their favorite snacks.

According to TSA.gov: "Sports equipment that can be used as a bludgeon (such as bats and clubs) is prohibited in the cabin of the plane and must be transported in your checked baggage."

You don't want to have any issues with weight limits - bring resistance bands

You can certainly bring them to an airport.
Whether you can take them onto a plane, in a carry-on bag, is a separate issue.

In a carry on no way as they would be considered a weapon

In a carry on? Not a chance, as they would be considered a potential weapon.

Secondly, carry on's have a small limited weight allowance for the overhead bins… And all carry ons must be stowed.

Thirdly, even in your checked luggage… Weight limit is 50 pounds. You are charged heavily for overweight or Over SIZED bags these days. So where are you going with all these weights?

No they will go in the hold.
