Can airport security search my phone?

I'm going to the airport today to go to Colorado and last time i went my mom had her phone confiscated because she forgot to take it out of her pocket during the screening and they forced her to unlock it while they went through it. Will they do that with me? I'm worried

Added (1). i'm not going to unlock it for them i will refuse

Just put your phone in the proper container to get xrayed and you will be fine.
Refusing to cooperate will likely keep you from birding your flight and you could possibly be put on a no fly list.
What do you have in your phone that your worried about. They don't care about day to day stuff.

You obviously have something to hide weirdo, if you didn't you wouldn't care or maybe your just stupid and have an ego for no reason

Doubtful they'd spend time going through a phone.

Maybe you have an emoji of a bomb on your phone…

You've already told us why your mom had this happen: she didn't take her phone out when she should. If you do what you're supposed to, this won't happen to you.
But just in case you really think you can just 'refuse' an airport security officer's request, you had better think again. They don't joke around.

I find it hard to believe that they searched your mother's phone. I've seen people forget to put their phones in the bins. It sets off the scanner, and the TSA people just tell the person to put it in a bin and run it through on the conveyor belt. It's unlikely they'd be interested in what's on the phone unless she behaved suspiciously. Just put your phone in the bin and they won't even notice it.

They will probably smash your phone like everyone else has. How many phones have you had smashed?

They can do whatever they want and if you refuse they rnight not let you fly

They certainly can ask to look through it. I've never had that happen and have never seen that happen, so I don't think it's likely to happen to you. Just make sure you send it through in the bin.

But if they ask you to unlock it and you refuse, then you won't be flying.

They can search and they might
If you refuse to unlock it you will not be allowed to board your flight and will be placed on the "no fly" list which means you will never fly anywhere again
Searching of phone and computer content is very common when returning from a country where sex with underaged kids is common, especially if a single male
