What is the best path to becoming a commercial airline pilot?
I have heard going into the Navy or Naval Officer Academy is a great way, but i'm still not sure.
A) It is unnecessary to say "commercial airline pilot". Just say "airline pilot" instead. All airlines are commercial by definition because they are all involved in air commerce for profit. There are no non-commercial or non-profit airlines and there are no non-commercial airline pilots.
b) What you "have heard" is true but what you probably haven't heard is how difficult it is to qualify for military flight training. For one, it is extremely competitive and only the best-of-the-best succeed. To become a pilot you must first become an officer, which requires a 4 year college degree, and you must have graduated very high in academic standing if you hope to be selected for pilot training.
c) The typical officer-applicant that gets selected has a GPA of 3.8 or better. On average, 1300 of these highly qualified officers apply for flight training each year, but only 10% are selected - those that are physically in top condition, academically at or near the top of their class, and are psychologically suited for it. Do you honestly think you can achieve that standard? If so, forge ahead. If not, drop the idea before you waste any more time thinking about it.
Thanks for quick feedback!
- I'm currently a sophomore in high school and I'm thinking of becoming a pilot? I want to become a pilot for an airline or something similar and I was wondering what colleges/universities are best for that career. Since I've recently decided on it, i don't know much about planes or anything that has to do with being a pilot. What are some things I could do to learn more about it and what are some requirements to be a pilot
- Can I be a commercial airline pilot if I take Prozac for ocd? I've recently decided to go down the path of becoming a commercial airline pilot, but I just wanted to know if I would be medically cleared by the faa if I take Prozac for ocd. My OCD has never been debilitating I've worked as a firefighter for about a year and have come across some very stressful situations but I've always kept my cool. I know that I should really ask a physician this but I was just wondering if anyone could give me any kind of answer, much appreciated.
- How do I become a commercial pilot? I have some questions in this regard: 1. Can I get a CPL by completing 250 hours on any aircraft such as the cessna 172 or a particular aircraft is required? 2. After getting my CPL can I join an airline as a FO before getting an ATPL? 3. What kind of course will I require to convert from the cessna 172 to an airliner such as the 737? And what is the average fees for such a course? 4. What else will I require after getting my CPL to fly as a FO for an airline?
- Is becoming a regional airline pilot one of the few great jobs that you can have without a college degree? Many regional airlines don't require college degrees. Is becoming an E-170 or CRJ700 captain much better than working as a bus driver or a carpenter? You think sleeping at Motel 6s or Motel 8s and drinking that free coffee is bad? It would be a very nice treat for bus drivers or people with other jobs that they could find with no degree. I would be honored to sleep at Motel 6 or Motel 8 for free. At least it is much better than hostel or Airbnb.
