What would the drinking age be on a British Airways flight from London to New York?

The legal drinking age in the UK is 18; in the US it is 21. What would it be on such a flight?

The legal drinking age on an international flight is usually the legal age in the country where the airline is registered.
So on the BA flight, the age would *probably* be 18, but you should check the BA website or call to be sure.

At 35,000 feet there's no legal drinking age law
as the plane is out of the legal jurisdiction of any country
over the Atlantic Ocean
the seniormost flight attendant is the law
he/she can bar anyone from drinking alcohol
as he/she deems fit

It's 18.

It would be 18, unless operated by AA when it would be 21. Most flights to NYC with BA are operated by them.

Just ask when you board.

It does depend on whose operating the flight. But it's generally a bad idea to drink on flights because it dehydrates you, which is already a problem. And drinking too much can get you in big trouble and even banned from the airline. It's not the place to binge.

If it is a BA flight that is actually operated by BA, then the drinking age will be 18. Many BA flights to the US are actually operated by American Airlines, in which case it would be 21.

18.

Since you are flying with British Airways, the drinking age is 18 because you are following UK law with British Airways being registered a UK airline. If you were flying United, American or Delta, the drinking age would be 21 because US law has the legal drinking age to be 21 and those 3 airlines are registered as US airlines and therefore they follow US law.

As you can see, there are two opinions, each equally definitely held. The best thing is always to go to the people whose job it is to know - in other words, ask the airline.
