What age is considered an adult on airlines?
My husband and I are looking up flight tickets for my step-son to come next month for Christmas. I'm wondering what the age is that "considers" them an "adult".
Also, any recommendations on airlines? I've only flown once in my life haha.
Added (1). I should probably mention that he will be flying as an unaccompanied minor. He's old enough to fly as an unaccompanied minor but he might be at the age where they consider him an "adult". We know there are additional fees for an unaccompanied minor as well. This is my first time doing this so I'm really not sure where to look. TIA
Added (2). Thank you all! That's about the ages I was finding online as well.
Why ask us? This varies by airline usually age 15, we're not airline employees… So why not ASK THEM or look on their website…
The age that airlines considers somebody to be an "adult" varies with the airlines. Children age 12 - 15 can fly by themselves, but an adult has to sign them in at the departure airport. For younger, you have to pay extra for an escort service. On United Airlines, even a 15 year old needs an escort service. The cost varies, usually about $150.
Children age 16 and up can travel alone without an escort service, but in any case need a letter of permission signed by their parents.
Probably need to be under 14 but you have to ask the airline. Depending on his age I do not recommend UM services, unless the child is too young to be in the airport alone
In terms of tickets, normally from age 12 upwards. Some may be higher, but most major carriers it is 12.
Flying on the Plane is just one part of a child's travel by plane.
Buying the ticket must be done by an Adult. (Over age 18)
They must be checked in by an Adult that is at the Airport with them.
Flying by themselves does not make them an Adult just an unaccompanied Minor
For most Airlines about age 12. The specific age is easily available from the Airline you wish to fly on.
Airline FROM WHERE to WHERE.
Every Airline does not fly EVERYWHERE.
Most Airlines require it be a direct flight. SOME will permit a change of planes as long as you keep to the same Airline.
The rules are not identical for every Airline on the Planet.
Generally 15. My daughter just BS'd her way through flying on her own at age 14. Internationally too.
- American Airlines vs Delta vs United Airlines? I'm traveling from New Orleans to Miami. I'm using an app called trip adiviser and Skyscanner to get cheap tickets and would like to know which out of the three airlines are a better choice. If anyone who reads this has experienced anything life threatening or traumatizing on while using one of these airlines please share! Is Southwest Airlines a better choice than the three listed above?
- Why are American Low Cost airlines very good compared to European Low cost airlines? Hi. Ryanair and Easy jet suck in Europe. I was so impressed by JetBlue and South West in the US. They were just like legacy major airlines
- I did an interview for Delta airlines and in the video interview I accidentally said American Airlines? Has anyone else had this problem? I caught it very quickly and said delta immediately and kept saying delta in the other answers. Do you think it can cost me the next step of the process?
- American Airlines Seating? Booked a flight and the seats are scattered about the plane. My wife and I don't want my 5 year old son sitting alone for obvious reasons. There are no other seats available except for Main Cabin Extra for 65$ per ticket. Should I pay the extra to be together or wait to see if more equivalent seats open up?
