In airports what do the radars do? In what ways do they help?
Help planes from crashing
Radar lets the air traffic controllers see exactly where the planes are, when they can't see them with their eyes (too far away or in bad weather). This helps them guide the planes and keep them away from each other.
Radars bounce signals off approaching aircraft, providing speed, distance and direction info. Ground radars provide info about the local location of aircraft. I know the transponder system is replacing radars but systems break and radars will always be an outstanding backup system. It would be foolish for an airport to not have a fully functional radar system as a backup.
- Why don't airports use steam catapults and transverse arrestor cables, like they do on aircraft carriers, for extra short take-off & landing? 1. Airports could be pretty tiny with runways no longer than a football field 2. Takeoff and landing (takeoff especially) would be *much* more exciting 3. Airlines could charge people more money because the experience would be much more fun 4. It would save a lot of fuel with much less taxiing around the airfield, and much less fuel used during the takeoff phase
- How much money they will cut for refund fee? Or they will give me full money? Turkish airlines refused my tickets. I wanted to go Brazil to meet my wife from Dhaka Bangladesh. It was one way ticket.
- How busy are the airports? I'm planning to fly from Houston TX to Mexico some time soon & I wanted to know if it's easy & fast or do they take a really long time?
- Out-of-state airports closest to Logan International? What commercial airports are closest to Boston's Logan International? We want to fly to Boston but all flghts are sold out. So the other option is to fly to a nearby state.
