Question about hotel deposit?
I stayed at a marriot hotel less then a week ago because my flight got overbooked and the airline offered me a free stay. The hotel charged me a $50 deposit. Am I suppose to receive that $50 back?
Added (1). Marriott is the hotel name
They most likely "authorized" the $50, instead of charging it. When you checked out, they would have "charged" any charges you had incurred. If zero, then the authorization will just expire with no charges against it.
It was probably just an incidental hold on your card, which should be released within a few days of checking out. You weren't likely charged; if you were, you'll get the money back. All of that is if you didn't use anything from the minibar, purchase any movies, or damage the room.
If the airline was paying for your hotel, you shouldn't pay anything for the room. The only expenses you should have are if you charged food or such to the room. A deposit should have been gone a long time ago.

- Has anyone heard of an airline paying for a passengers's hotel on a long stopover? I see a flight with a stopover of 39 hours but wonder how airlines can offer such a lengthy flight unless they're willing to provide a hotel for the passenger. Has anyone heard of an airline that offers hotels for long stopovers?
