What is it like to fly in a Airplane for the first time?

Air Canada Airlines. I'm going to Montego Bay for my honeymoon.

Added (1). Being serious y'all. What is a plan ride like?

It's like getting a bus or a train.

It feels just like the second time, the tenth time or a hundredth time. You get on a plane, stow away your carry on luggage, take your seat and buckle your seat belt. The pilots in the cockpit magically make houses on the ground small and then big again while you try to find some way to entertain yourself and then you there. You unbuckle the seat belt, get up, collect your carry on and exit the plane.

As the houses are getting bigger you may feel a little discomfort in your ears. That's normal. Sipping water, chewing gum, eating hard candy or moving your jaw side to side usually relieves the discomfort. If that doesn't work, pinch both of your nostrils and exhale sharply though your nose.

It is not scary and not like a roller coaster. The airline wants you to have a good experience and they usually succeed.

Both of you should join Air Canada's frequent flier program, even if you don't expect to be frequent fliers. Each passenger needs their own account.

If you have not yet purchased tickets then buy them while logged on to your account. You can buy both tickets while logged on to one account.

If you have already bought tickets then after you join AC's ff program call AC (talk to a human) and add your ff numbers to the trip.

Note the names on your tickets must exactly match the names in your passports. If you have not bought the tickets then get the one for your spouse in the name in her current passport. If you already bought the tickets and the one for your spouse is in her (future) married name then she just needs to have with her the marriage license. It is better for her ticket to be in then name in hour pre-marriage passport.

You need travel medical insurance > that covers medical transportation to home if necessary < unless your home medical insurance covers you abroad. AC sell travel medical insurance. Please don't skimp on this as an otherwise silly accident or illness can turn into a crisis if you don't have insurance.

Log on to your accounts 24 hours before departure and check in online. If you can print boarding passes when you check in online then do so.

Be at the airport and at the check in area not less than two (2) full hours before your flight is scheduled to depart.

Once you are checked in you go to security. The rules are on here:

The answer from Daniel has links you should read. There are also YouTube videos about going through the airport and aboard the flight.

If you have the time and money before your honeymoon then best is to take a short flight (there and back same day or overnight) so you first ever fight isn't when you depart on your honeymoon.

If you can't do that then I recommend going to the airport in advance to see the layout. Watch the check-in process for a few minutes and then go observe the security check process for a few minutes (you can't take photos or video of the security check). They won't let you through the security checkpoint without a boarding pass but you can still see what the security people do.

The last time I visited Canada there was no passport control when exiting, but that may have changed so ask while you are at the airport so you know.

Once through security (and passport control if necessary) you go to the gate for your flight. There will be flight status boards everywhere which list the gate, and lots of signs directing you to the gate.

Boarding will start 30 to 60 minutes before the scheduled departure so ask the gate staff. If you want to wander off then be back at the gate for when boarding is scheduled to start.

Boarding is by zones, and your zone will be listed on your boarding pass.

Once aboard the aircraft you put your carry-on bags in the overhead compartment, relax, and listen to the instructions from the crew.

After arrival you exit the aircraft, go to passport control, and then go to baggage claim to collect your luggage. You exit the airport by going out the doors marked Ground Transportation, Nothing To Declare, or something similar.

I usually recommend that people have airport lounge access, and Priority Pass has member lounges in Canada and Jamaica.

If you do get lounge access then get to the airport earlier than two hours before departure so you have time to use the lounge. If your flight's departure is delayed then having access to a lounge is Really nice.

Best wishes!

You get in and sit down and fasten your seatbelt. Just like a big bus.
The bus starts to move, and moves faster and faster until it leaves the ground, and often you hear a 'clunk' as that happens - it's just the undercarriage stowing itself in the body of the plane.
You may feel you're being pushed right into the back of your seat, which is a strange but not frightening or painful sensation, and last only 20 seconds or so. Then the plane stops climbing and the next few hours it just drones along through the sky.
Half an hour before arrival the plane starts to sink, and before you know it there's a sharp bump and the plane has landed. Then it runs along the runway, braking to reduce speed, and then it trundles quietly and tamely to its parking place.
And you get off.

  • What will commercial planes look like in near future like 2 years from now? Will hybrid airliner be mainstream widespread in our lifetime will hybrid airplanes mean the end of boeing 737 and Airbus a320 production will airlines stop buying fuel efficient planes like boeing 737 max airbus a320neo
  • First time flyer tips? In a couple months, I'll be taking a 5 hour flight to MA, but I've never ever been on a plane. I've never even been in an airport. I'm trying to get as much information as possible so that I don't humiliate myself and/or do something just plain stupid. Any tipa would be greatly appreciated!
  • I booked an airplane ticket to fly from California to South Carolina? I made a small typo on my last name, got it fixed and now my seat number won't show up. What should I do? Should I take both my original receipt and my corrected name receipt to the airport?
  • Plane ticket has first, middle and last name but my passport only has first and last name? I'm flying Scandinavian Airlines and my plane ticket has my first, middle, and last name but my passport only has my first and last name. Does anyone have any experience with this or think it will be an issue? I called the travel agency and they told me they could not do anything to correct the middle name. I was also thinking about bringing another form of ID like a birth certificate or social security card to be safe.
