What do you think about the puppy dying on a united airlines flight fiasco?

People shouldn't take animals in the cabin.

I think the owner was an idiot to put their 10 month old puppy in the overhead bin no matter what the flight attendant told them. When you pay for an animal to fly with you are paying for having it ride under the seat in front of you not stuffed in with luggage.

But there's some other issues here:

1) Why did they have a carrier so large it was sticking into the aisle? Carriers can only come into the cabin if they fit under the seat in front of you. So why didn't someone notice the carrier was too large?

2) I don't think the flight attendant realized it was a dog. It was a soft carrier not a hard one so for all they knew it was luggage. When they told them to put it in the overhead bin they claimed they said "it's a dog" but I think that's BS. More likely they smuggled the dog on board so didn't want to claim it was a dog.

3) VERY unlikely these people paid for this dog to fly with them. If they had they would have had to have shown a health certificate from the vet. The certificate would show the BREED and according to United FRENCH BULLDOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED on their plane - nor are any other of the short faced dog breeds since they can have breathing issues.

So this had to have been someone that either just walked on with their dog hidden in the bag OR they claimed it was an "Emotional Support Dog" and perhaps no one bothered to ask for a health certificate for it. I'n not sure if they do for the BS ESD's.

United needs to seriously discipline the idiot who did that and ensure ALL their flight crews know better!

Sad

I don't know why the puppy died. Did he die because there was not enough air in the overhead luggage storage bid, or did he die because he was smushed because of other luggages crammed into that space? I don't know.
