I can't become an airline pilot because of my keratoconus?
I'm 15, with keratoconus, and I'm fed up with the amount of challenges I've faced because of it, first of all, It's hard. I get so much double vision, light is very harsh on my eyes, and bad eyesight, it makes me long sighted and short sighted
And now i find out I can't become a pilot, pilots can wear glasses, but my kaeratoconus is not cured by glasses, it just helps me a bit, i don't know what to do, i would love to be a pilot
A conical cornea is treatable, Jalal, if you can afford to do so.
Ok
Sorry to hear about your situation, kiddo. But, you wouldnt want to be responsible for killing 2-300 people, would ya? The laws are there to protect people, not to kill them. You'll just have to look at doing something else OR get it corrected if possible.
At only 15 there's lots of time for your eyes to be treated and maybe you'll be able to pass an airman's medical exam one day. However, a pragmatic person wouldn't count on it. This problem doesn't prevent you from being involved in aviation in a different occupation, so you might put your energy into finding something else besides flying that interests you. It would be constructive and far better than being depressed about it. We can't all achieve the things we dream about, but that can be a blessing in disguise. Play to your strengths, not your weaknesses. Large commercial drones are one of the big things for the future and you can certainly be involved in that if you wanted to. Study robotics. Study automated control systems. Study autonomous technology and the computer systems required to run them. Aviation and space technology is a gigantic field and there are a lot of important and rewarding careers that don't have any of the down sides of being a pilot, and there are lots of negatives when it comes to a flying career. Any professional pilot will tell you that, so cheer up and work with what you've got.

- Can I still become an airline pilot? So, I'm 5ft and I wear glasses, but my prescription is very low, as in +0.25 and +0.5. I was told to be a pilot you need to be 5ft 2 at least, and you need perfect vision. Is this true?
- What do I really need to become a pilot and work for an airline? Really, all aviation programs are extremely complicated to understand. Do I need a CPL? A bachelors degree? How does one become a pilot and work for an airline?
- How can I become and Air Traffic Controller? I'm very interested in becoming an Air Traffic Controller! I love the communication side of Aviation. I'm currently a Sophomore in college and my school does not offer an AT-CTI program, but it offers Flight Operations and Aviation Management (which I'm taking both). I was wondering what the process would be to become a controller the civilian way. I do not desire to join the military. I just want to be an ATC at airports in the US
- Too short to become a airline pilot? Hello i'm 22 Female, African American 5"0 1/2, I've always wanted a career in aviation for the experience, love for aviation and to give the passengers a enjoyable flight. I thought about becoming a airline pilot. Because of my height i'm pressuming id benefit from working for a regional carrier such as Mesa Airlines, Compass Airlines, DBA Endeavor etc. Before I even consider this as a career field am i too short to meet the qualifications of a airline pilot?
