Tips on bring DSLR on a flight?

How does TSA/Airport security handle this? Chance of getting it stolen while being screened? Any concerns I should be worrying about?

Added (1). I'm thinking bringing a personal bag and a carry on bag. Will they allow putting my personal bag (camera equipment bag) inside my carry-on bag (backpack)?

You can put anything at all in your carry-on bag, anything of course, that you're allowed to take through security. No one cares if you have bags inside bags.

Things do occasionally get stolen while being screened, and it's most often your fellow passengers who take it. Keep your eyes on your stuff and where it is in the queue. Don't let it get so far ahead of you that you can't see what happens to it

You will have no problems at all but it's better to put it in a separate camera case as it could get damaged in your backpack. I have several thousands dollars worth of camera equipment and travel all over the country with it and have never yet had any problems.

Although what Karen said is correct, relatively new rules require cameras to be placed into a separate bin for inspection. If you leave it in your carry on, you'll probably be pulled aside for additional screening…

In the past, I've put my DSLR in its camera bag, which I put in my carry-on. Now, however, all electronics larger than a cell phone need to be placed in the bins for separate screening. So you will have to take it out of whatever bag(s) it's in for screening. Keep in mind that airlines only allow so many carry-on bags/personal items (usually 1 of each, but sometimes less depending on your airline and your ticket type), so consolidating bags is a good idea for that reason.

I just always keep a close watch on my belongings while waiting in the security line. In most cases, I'm through with my own screening before my bags are; but sometimes my things are waiting for me, and I try to watch especially closely. That's really all you can do.

You're supposed to screen it separately nowadays but I still leave it in the camera bag and haven't had any problems. Stolen items is relatively rare with all the cameras everywhere but like always, you need to keep an eye on your stuff. Sometimes the bags don't get screen at the same time you go through the screening

There's no problem with your camera. Put it in a carry on when you go through screening

It's a completely ordinary, everyday thing. They won't get excited. You don't have to, either.

Update
If it fits YES

How does TSA/Airport security handle this? They have been dealing with cameras everyday since they first started screening.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW all about everything security does. The bad guys also want to know.

If your item is suspicious they can exam it more closely or refuse to allow it on board.

Chance of getting it stolen while being screened? Virtually near zero. You are there when it is examined. You are a few feet away from the entrance and exit to the screening machine if used.

Tens of thousands pass their stuff without incident. Everyday. WHY WHY WHY do you expect to have some issues.

Any concerns I should be worrying about? NO

Just worry about getting to the inspection point with enough time left over to get to your flight. HINT early is much better than later.

Crime does exist at Airports. Is there very much? NO
