Can I work as a Pilot and an Aircraft Mechanic [A1 B1.1] (only when i'm not flying) for an airline?

I'm going to get my EASA Cat A (B1.1) license soon and I've decided to do my pilot training next. I was wondering if the airline companies would hire me as a Pilot and an Aircraft mechanic at the same time?
Is it possible? Like once I've landed and I happen to have a lot of "free time" left, can i work as an aircraft mechanic? Like I'll be a Full-time employee at that airline.

A airline won't let you do both jobs.

You think you'll have free time as a first officer on a regional airline? Good luck.Oh, and as an avionics tech for 37 years, the last thing I wanted to hear was what the pilot thought was wrong with one of my systems.

Which is it going to be, Skippy? American A&P Mechanic or European Aircraft Maintenance Engineer? While the two licenses are similar, they are NOT interchangeable. And NO! You WILL NOT be hired as a pilot at the same time as you are working as a mechanic.

In the "old days" there were Flight Engineers (F/E) with an A&P license -
They could at times perform some maintenance during an airline trip -
Such as sign off a change of a tire or wheel, or add oil to engines -
Some also had a pilot license and became pilots -
But none of them worked as Aircraft Mechanic -

Some Flight Engineers got hired initially as Aircraft Mechanics -
As soon as they became Flight Engineer, they no longer were Mechanics
