Tips for living in Kyoto japan for a month?

My boyfriend and I will be living in Kyoto japan for the full month of June I would love some tips to help us get by, we're students only 19 and 20 so all our money was put towards flights and comadation, I'm asking is there any way to make this long holiday cheaper? I will be training judo 6 days a week at a unverity and hopefully he will be doing some boxing if there's any clubs near by? Also what would be the cheapest way to get from Osaka airport to Kyoto?

The best way to get around in Japan is the trains. They are incredibly modern and efficient.
For food, go to the grocery stores or the convenience shops. There's a much wider range of prepared foods available than is typical in the US, and they're very reasonable. You can buy a little tray of sushi for $6-7, or you can go to a sushi restaurant and pay $50-60 for essentially the same thing. There are also noodle shops where you get a big bowl of noodles with slices of meat on top. Look at the samples in the window, or the pictures on the menu. If you're not fluent in Japanese, be prepared to take the server outside with you where you can point at the sample in the window.

If you have not decided on your accommodation, you can find a youth hostel to make your accommodation cheaper.

  • First time flyer tips? In a couple months, I'll be taking a 5 hour flight to MA, but I've never ever been on a plane. I've never even been in an airport. I'm trying to get as much information as possible so that I don't humiliate myself and/or do something just plain stupid. Any tipa would be greatly appreciated!

  • Bus IC Cards in Japan? Hi! I'm planning to go to Japan at the end of the year, and want to plan everything out first. I would like to know which kind of IC card to use if I want to get on a bus from Kansai Airport to USJ in Osaka as well as Kyoto. I looked up the cards, and there seem to be so many to choose from. Which card is suitable for travelling by bus in these places. And if you can, maybe explain how the busses work? Is there english in the signs?
