Can I use my instruction permit at the airport to travel from state to state?

I have a instruction permit that doesn't expire til summer 2018 and it has a photo plus my state on it. Can't find my passport so this is my best best thing. I'm over 18 so I need an id.

Yes, IF besides your photo and name it has your birth date, issue date, and expiration date.

Yes, that is considered government-issued photo ID, so it should be fine.

If it is a "Paper" ID it is unlikely to be accepted by itself. Yes it is "Government Issued" and yes it does have your photo. But they generally require the actual card which is a bit more permanent and harder to duplicate to be considered valid and not a temporary permit.

If the permit has any phrase such as "Not valid for ID" then that should also tip you off that it won't be accepted.

Now, that doesn't mean that you won't be able to get through TSA. If they can verify you through other means you can still be allowed to pass through TSA. Just be sure to take what you have and be sure to arrive with plenty of time being prepared for extra screening time. The general rule is to be there 2 hours before for a domestic flight, I would suggest perhaps even an extra hour on top of that.

  • Can I use a photocopy of a birth certificate for flying? Can I use a photocopy of my child's birth certificate for proof of age when using unaccompanied minors services or do I have to have the original certificate? She's flying American Airlines.
  • Can I use the airport lounge? I'm traveling to St Marteen, but I have a layover in Miami for 6 hours. I'm flying first class on American Airlines, so I assume I was able to go in the lounge. I looked it up to make sure, because I'm going next month, but it said international places, which I'm going to. The caribbean was not on the list of places though. So am I not able to use the lounge? Can someone tell me how this works.
  • Out-of-state airports closest to Logan International? What commercial airports are closest to Boston's Logan International? We want to fly to Boston but all flghts are sold out. So the other option is to fly to a nearby state.
  • Can you use only the return portion of a round trip plane ticket? I have a trip booked in October and I need to change the day I leave from Sunday to Saturday. It is a basic fare so I can't make any changes. I think the least expensive work around is for me to buy another 1-way ticket leaving on Saturday, and using the return portion of my original ticket. Does anyone know if you can do this? I tried to call the airline but they are slammed with calls due to the incoming hurricane…
