Can someone please describe an airport in detail?

Which airport?

It can't be detailed if you don't have a specific one in mind.

All have certain things (check in desks, arrivals, departures, toilets, shops…)

Airports come in different shapes. Some consist of several different buildings. You can look at the layout of a specific airport online. Or do you want to know the general process when you go to an airport for a flight?
1. You go to the desk for the airline you're flying to check your luggage. You show them your boarding pass and I.D. Or they can print your boarding pass for you.
2. You follow the signs to the security check where your carry on luggage is scanned and you go through one of the two kids of scanners.
3. You follow the signs to your gate. In some airports, like Atlanta, that means riding a little train to the concourse- they are usually designated A, B, C, etc. While the gates are numbered.
4. You wait at the gate to be told to board your plane.

Which one there are about 45,000 different ones.

Some have long runways. Some have no visible runways but land lots of planes
Some have air traffic control in nearby office building.
Some have a runway in two countries.

Some can really do a lot when there are problems at other airports.

Some are very busy

Some are abandoned. And not so nice any more.

Some have a regular road in the middle of them.

Some are the road just used as an Airport when needed.
As a picture is worth a thousands words I will speed it up for you a bit.

There are different classes of airports. Some are local airports which can only handle small propeller aircraft. Others are international airports which can handle aircraft flying in from other countries. Airports pretty much have a ticket counter where passengers go to check-in for their flights. They have security screening, restaurants and small shops to buy souvenirs. Outside, the airport has one or more runways along with equipment to help prepare the aircraft for their next flight. An airport also has a fire department and those serving commercial flights have an air traffic control tower.

  • Can you contact an airline or a plane to talk to someone who's there? I'm trying to contact someone who I dropped off at the airport, they left their phone and everything here with me and by now they're already in the air. Is there a way to contact the plane or airline to see if I can talk to that person?
  • Can my friend enter the international part of the airport on my layover so I can visit him? I have a 5 hour layover in fort lauderdale coming from out of the country and I want to visit my friend who lives there at the airport bar. Should I exit through customs or can he come in if he doesn't have a ticket anywhere?
  • Can you rank these airlines from best to worst please? Thinking about traveling to Asia (Japan and South Korea to be more specific) and these the airlines that are options, in alphabetical order: Air Canada American Airlines ANA Delta Japan Airlines Korean Air United
  • Give someone else your plane ticket? Me and my family recently bought plane tickets to go to Florida. My dad unfortunately isn't able to go on the day that we fly out. We're flying Spirit Airlines. Is there any way that we can transfer the ticket to another one of my family members, like my sister perhaps? Please help, I would really hate for me to spend all that money on a ticket and have it go to waste.
