Flying with cigarettes in my handluggage?
I'm flying from Sweden to England tomorrow. I've been asked by my colleagues to bring cigarettes back with them since they're cheaper. I'm only taking hand luggage and won't be checking in any hold luggage, the cigarettes would already be in my handluggage when I arrive at the airport. I've checked the limits on how much tobacco I can bring into the UK before having to declare it to customs, so I won't have any problems on that end. But I'm worried that when security at the Swedish airport xray my handluggage, they will remove it from me, simply because of the sheer amount I'll have (probably 10 packets or so). I have read its permitted to bring tobacco in handluggage. But since itll be a lot, I'm just worried I'll be called out on it. Can someone clarify?
Sweden does not care what you bring back. You are leaving their country. It is UK customs that check, and if you have the correct amount there won't be a problem.
Security is about security. Their job is to stop you from taking weapons on the airline. They are NOT customs. You'll go through customs in the UK.
You will have to declare them & possible pay a duty on them.
Assuming you do mean 10 packets (not 10 sleeves containing 10 packs each), then it will pass unnoticed. Anything over 800 cigarettes will cause suspicion. 200 cigarettes will not. If it is 10 sleeves, then you are likely to be stopped.
If customs authorities suspect that you are carrying goods which are not for your own use, or are intended for resale, you may be asked to prove that they are (by producing proof of purchase etc.). If you can't provide sufficient evidence, you might be asked to pay duties or your products could be confiscated.
You will be fine. At the Swedish end, they will not be concerned with you having that amount of cigs. When you arrive in the UK, you will be ok as well, because you have not exceeded the limit. 10 packs is fine and you should have no problem bringing that amount to the UK.
As mentioned it is not an unlimited allowance from within the European countries to the UK. When you say 10, you'll need to make sure you aren't over your limit. 800 cigarettes, that 4 cartons of 200, rolling tobacco in 50g pouches you can bring 20, but don't confuse this with the cigarette allowance.
They do scan bags of use sniffer dogs trained to sniff out large quantities of tobacco. It is not worth going over the limit. Duty makes it too expensive and they are likely to take all that is above your limit.
- Will Ryanair refund tickets when my son (although not flying) has been taken into hospital seriously ill? I was due to fly with Ryanair this week but my son has been taken into hospital so I can't go away (and other kids are all seriously ill at home with chronic diarrhoea. Plus I have had the same until today. Will Ryanair refund the costs? Or do I leave my partner to look after the kids and fly despite all the illnesses?
- First time flying with stops? So is Christmas season and I'm traveling from the US to Mexico for the holidays, I have already flying from point A to point B but I never have from point A to point B and C ( or city stops) so I'm nervous. How early have to be on the airport? Is one hour enough to switch from one plane to other? How long can it take on immigration and still have to take the second plane?
- I'm flying out of the Hartsfield/Jackson airport early Friday morning and need parking information I don't want to park at a hotel unless I have to. Does anyone have information on parking at the airport and if I can pay the morning of my flight? Prices would be nice too. TIA!
