Is it possible to start your own airlines?
Obviously it takes a lot of money and there's the issue of competition and draconian government regulation. I want to create an airline company that is affordable and harkens back to the golden age of air travel.
Possible yes. You have it exactly right, you will need capital, expertise, and a game (business) plan that differentiates you from competition.
No. All airlines that will ever exist already exist. It is not possible for anyone to ever start a new one.
Personally, I *like* draconian government regulations - about airline safety. I WANT to be in a plane that was told to sit on the tarmac for a reasonable amount of time, because one inspector thought something *looked funny*. And example of airline WITHOUT strict regs? Well, sometimes rescuers find the Black Box - and a lot of bodies. No thanks.
Added - I read your other questions. Even if you DID find a way to do this - there's no connection to you finally getting a girlfriend. You have issues, fella - and need to get them sorted before something strange happens.
Well you can depending on your definition of "affordable".
If you want to go back to the "Golden Age" you are basically talking about "First Class" Service from Check-In to the Flight and Arrival. With an airline to run this you would actually have to charge more than current day "First Class" tickets because you won't have the Economy Class that makes up a bulk of the flight's capacity.
If I could, I'd start an similar airline to Legend Airlines with only First and Business class. No economy. Start out with coast to coast service and Vegas
Yes, it is possible. You will need huge resources, in terms of capital funding etc. Unfortunately your idea of affordable and golden eve of air travel are somewhat incompatible. Passengers are simply not willing to pay the ticket prices for a superior service, and much prefer the mixed offering of modern airlines, where the low cost airline compete with the full service carriers on the same routes/destinations.
While the flying public would really appreciate this concept, starting up an airline is extremely difficult. You need to figure out where you would be based, what routes you will fly, lease gate space and secure take-off and landing slots, have a fleet of aircraft and have suppliers lined up for providing you with spare parts, food/beverage, aircraft cleaning.
Therefore the barriers of entry are quite high. Also people are very price sensitive so even if you did lower airfare, most of the big airlines will match your fares and try to drive you out of the market. There's a lot to consider when opening up an airline and many do not last long. American Airlines' former CEO Robert Crandall said it best. "If you want to be a millionaire, start with a billion dollars and run an airline."
No way to provide that service and be affordable
No be a pilot 👨✈️ 1st
Yes, that is how airlines started. It might be legally and financially more complex today than it was in the 1920s.
