Can I purchase an airline ticket for someone, which must be used, and can't be cashed in?
Yes, you can buy a non-refundable ticket for another person with cash or credit card.
You can buy a ticket. Most tickets can't be cashed in, but that doesn't mean the person is forced to use them. Most airlines will give a credit to be used within a year for another flight.
Yes you can
Unless you specifically purchase a Fully Refundable ticket, just about every other ticket has restrictions that mean you can't "Cash" them in. But even if it was possible to cash it in, the credit would go back to the same Credit/Debit card that was used to purchase the ticket.
However, that doesn't mean they have to use it. The person who has the ticket can just chose to not get on the plane. In that case the ticket is just cancelled, but no refund or credit is issued. It also doesn't mean that they may not be able to take that ticket and get a credit towards a different flight.
Not really sure why you want to know this, but short of getting a Court Order and having a person escorted onto a plane there's nothing that will force someone to use a ticket for a specific flight.
Can't be cashed in is easy. Most people who are paying for their own trip buy non-refundable fares. And even refundable tickets, if bought with credit card, will not be refunded in cash but only credited to the SAME card.
"Must by used"is more difficult. What, you want the airline to force someone aboard at gunpoint?
Oh, has some friendly Nigerian prince promised to visit you in the US and make you rich and famous, if you'll only buy his air ticket first?
Yes can
Some airlines make it possible to add a "code word" to the itinerary that agents will ask you for whenever you need to make any change.
So to your agent, buy the ticket send the 'friend' just the confirmation number.
Yes

- I cancelled a flight on expedia and was refunded in airline credit. I had purchased insurance on the ticket and didn't realize I had to File a claim to be refunded. I'm **** out of luck because I already ordered my other tickets and American Airlines is charging a $200 fee on the airline credit, so even if I eventually use the credit in the next 12 months, I'm still out $200.

I plan on taking an exclusively Delta flight from Birmingham Shuttlesworth to Bangor international and I'm worried about having to change terminals or go through security again when i stop for my layovers in Atlanta and JFK International, or if i can keep layovers shorter by being able to remain in the same terminal through the whole journey.
