Going to Orlando Florida Sept 5-7 for a national competition, but worried about the storm coming?

We're leaving the 5th early morning and and arriving home early morning. I have never been a huge fan of airplanes. Are we gonna be okay? We're flying on Southwest airlines. Should this storm cause worry regarding the plane?

If it were not safe, they would cancel the flight.

It's not expected to travel far in to Florida and is just going to be going across the keys and the Miami area before travelling on to the Gulf of Mexico.

If the weather is bad, flights will be canceled. No one wants to lose an airplane.

The airline doesn't want to be involved in a plane crash any more than you do. If it looks that bad, they will cancel the flight

Unless you are flying from New Orleans or Mobile you should be fine.

As of 8 p.m. Eastern Time, the center of the Tropical Storm Gordon is about 60 miles west of Punta Gorda, FL and is moving north-west. It will be making a landfall in Mississippi in the early hours of Wednesday, September 5. By Wednesday afternoon its center will be near the Mississippi-Arkansas-Louisiana border, about a thousand miles from Orlando.

The Tropical Storm Florence, out in the middle of the Atlantic, on Wednesday afternoon will be more than 1,500 miles east of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

I've flown out of Japan in the middle of a typhoon- which is a Pacific hurricane. Airplanes fly above the storms. Don't worry about it.

I don't think the storm is expected to significantly impact the Orlando area. Planes will not fly in or out if the storm is presenting a danger to the airport though.

Trust me, unless there's a major hurricane that shuts down all of the airports, and you would hear about this on the news, planes will be operating but perhaps with some delays. Best not to worry about it until it becomes a problem.
Check your airline flight status starting 24 hours before departure.
Also, your conference will be well aware of travel conditions and if needed, they would postpone or cancel the event and notify attendees as soon as possible.

Oh thank God you noticed, I'm sure the airline had NO IDEA about this and were just trotting along blithely without giving it a thought.
