So people can walk on them
To stand on.
To help move you along faster, if you choose to walk on them. Or to give you a bit of break when walking, if you choose to just stand. They are usually located in large, busy airports where people might be expected to walk significant distances between gates.
It's so you don't have to walk as much. Or allows you to walk faster
They are called people movers or the moving sidewalk. Some airport terminals are really long and having these moving sidewalks will allow you to either take a break from walking or help you move a little faster. Proper etiquette is if you are just standing on the moving sidewalk, you stand on the right-side so those who are planning to walk on them can go past you on the left-side.
Moving side walks
Originally placed so the elderly/infirm could rest but keep moving now used by many passangers
- Why don't airports use steam catapults and transverse arrestor cables, like they do on aircraft carriers, for extra short take-off & landing? 1. Airports could be pretty tiny with runways no longer than a football field 2. Takeoff and landing (takeoff especially) would be *much* more exciting 3. Airlines could charge people more money because the experience would be much more fun 4. It would save a lot of fuel with much less taxiing around the airfield, and much less fuel used during the takeoff phase
- Do passenger air jets fly over the North Pole often on their way to other side of world (Ex. China) from North America? Was watching a documentary where someone left Canada on a passenger jet and they showed the flight going over the north pole to China would it not be kind of dangerous if they had to land and had to get out at the North pole? the cold air pressure is not too much for passengers inside?
- First and Middle name joined on plane ticket online? I'm a first time flyer. Someone purchased a plane ticket from Delta online, he gave me the confirmation code to log in as a guest and I did with my first and last name. I checked on the flight details that my first and middle name are joined together. Will that be a issue when I get to the airport to show my ID?
- Plane ticket has first, middle and last name but my passport only has first and last name? I'm flying Scandinavian Airlines and my plane ticket has my first, middle, and last name but my passport only has my first and last name. Does anyone have any experience with this or think it will be an issue? I called the travel agency and they told me they could not do anything to correct the middle name. I was also thinking about bringing another form of ID like a birth certificate or social security card to be safe.
